September 17, 2023

September 17, 2023
Dear Bloomingdale Families,
We had a fantastic first full week of school at BAS! Students enjoyed continued opportunities to learn about their new classes while also enjoying lunch and recess. We would like to thank the PTA for the Coffee Truck that visited the school during lunch last week. It certainly helped to keep staff "fueled up" for the full week!
We will kick off the upcoming week with School Picture Day tomorrow, Monday, September 18th and welcome you to join us for Back To School Night on Tuesday, September 19th. Additionally, we will celebrate Start With Hello Week! and invite all students to wear green on Wednesday, September 20th.
I hope you enjoyed the weekend!
Sincerely,
Kristen D'Anna
BAS Principal
Hispanic Heritage Month
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Cranford Public Schools will be participating in this celebration by focusing on the history of this commemorative month and spotlighting some contributions made by change makers of the Latinx community.
Start with Hello Week! - September 18th-22nd
This week we are celebrating Start With Hello Week! Each year, thousands of schools and youth organizations nationwide participate in Start With Hello Week, a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth.
At BAS, students will participate in lessons that develop inclusion, friendship, and kindness. We will all WEAR GREEN on WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 20th to help recognize this important week.
Attendance Information
We love having your children at school! Regular attendance is important for students' academic and social development. As long as students are healthy, they should attend school. If your child does need to be absent, please call 908-709-6969 ext. 6973 to report your child's absence.
Lunch and Snack Information
Pomptonian Lunch Ordering
Snack Time
Full Day Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Students have a brief snack time each day. Please send your child with a small snack that follows any allergy guidelines that were shared with your class. Reusable water bottles can also be used throughout the day. Reusable water bottles should only be used for water. Other drinks such as juice, milk, etc. can be enjoyed during the lunch period. This will ensure that any accidental drink spills in the classroom can be cleaned quickly so that learning can continue. Thank you for your assistance!

PTA
Class Parents
Please fill out the Google Form below by Friday September 22 if you are interested in being a class parent for your child's class. Being a class parent is an opportunity to spend some time in your child's classroom during the school year providing games, snacks, and other activities during class parties. It's a great opportunity to get to know your child's classmates, teacher, and fellow parents as you plan and execute special activities throughout the year. New to BAS? Don't worry -- you will receive guidance from your child's teacher and the PTA.
Please note:
-- You must be a PTA member to be considered. Click here to join the PTA.
-- If you were a BAS class parent last year, your name will be removed from the running unless we don't have enough volunteers for that class.
-- As a class parent you will be expected to plan and attend 6 class parties per year.
Your responsibilities would also include communicating with parents, organizing gifts for teachers and aides, coordinating food donations and volunteers for class parties, among other things.
-- Principal D'Anna will choose names out of a hat on Tuesday September 26.
Thank you!

close to the date.
We will be reaching out for parent volunteers soon.

Building Bridges
Building Bridges is a program which helps connect Cranford students from the lower elementary schools with high school mentors. We seek to help students foster friendships with students in their grade from the other schools in our district as well as high school Ambassadors that run activities for their group. Our program meets twice a month on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Your child does not have to participate in every session to attend; however we encourage participation in as many sessions as possible to get the full experience.
This program is open to students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. We are welcoming 5th graders to participate as Ambassador Assistants to work with the younger grades. The program meets at Cranford High School from 3:30-4:30pm. The registration fee is $20 per student.
There are limited spots so please submit your digital form and registration payment by September 29th.
