Washington Tech Tidbits
Washington School - August 30, 2016 - Rachel Labuz
Welcome Back
We made it through the first full week of the 2016-17 school year! As a reminder, if you need any tech assistance, in terms of equipment or software, please email Pat at wasupport@d64.org. For curriculum support, please contact me at rlabuz@d64.org.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom is a great platform for establishing your classroom community! It allows teachers to communicate with students, create and grade assignments, give feedback, and gather information. Classroom is beginning to integrate with other sites, like KhanAcademy and IXL, and can be easily accessed on all of our district Chromebooks and iPads.
Here is a link to the presentation I taught on Google Classroom this summer, and here is a list of 50 things you can do with Google Classroom.
Clever Sign-In
The district is streamlining the process for student logins with the help of a system called Clever. Please use the links off of the D64 Online Resources - Elementary School page to access Study Island and TypingClub. This is a great link for you and your students to bookmark!
Web Presence
Just a friendly reminder to keep your web presence up-to-date. If you need any assistance with your site, blog, online newsletter, etc., please let me know! Here is a link to the District 64 Web Presence Rubric.
New teachers, please send your links to Georg, our building webmaster, so she can link them to the Staff Directory!
Student Chromebooks
- Suggest that students use one of the built-in backgrounds for their Chromebook desktops, as opposed to using a random image they find on Google. (Backgrounds can be changed under settings or by tapping on the desktop with 2 fingers.)
- Students should not modify their settings. If they need a large cursor or inverted colors for a learning accommodation, settings can be modified by a teacher.
Global Connections
Here is a great resource by Matt Miller that highlights 20 free ways to connect and collaborate with classrooms around the world. There are so many great ideas on here, from global sing alongs and author chats to collaborative art projects and Mystery Skypes!
