December Raptor Review

Schaller-Crestland Elementary Family Communication Letter

Message from Mr. Brand

I wish you all Happy Holidays! Enjoy your time with your family, stay healthy, and if you are traveling, stay safe. December is always a busy month at school with finishing things, appreciating one another, incentives, and holiday chaos or parties. :) If your child is going to be absent, be sure to call the office to let us know! Again, December is a great time to reflect on the unforeseen and chaotic year we have had, but also look forward to new beginnings in January. I wish all of you the best! Happy Holidays!

  • Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather! We will go outside unless the real feel is below 0 degrees.
  • Students enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal provided by our food service and it was delicious! The kids loved it too!
  • We will begin assessing our students in reading next week to prepare for the start of January with new reading groups that are right at the students current grade level.
  • We hired 2 new aides for our Pre-K program.
  • We recently received the Local Produce and Protein School Equipment Grant which has provided us with fresh local produce and meat which is provided by Tiefenthaler to serve to all of our students each day. Additionally, we are able to purchase some new equipment.
  • We purchased a new shed for the playground which will keep all of our playground equipment organized! We are very excited to have a place to put everything!
  • We also receive the fresh fruits and vegetables grant which gives the students an additional healthy snack during the school day.
  • We will be hosting a community holiday meal before winter break, so the middle of December. The dinner will be served as a grab and go. It will be a porkloin dinner. Please keep a lookout for information in the near future and enjoy a delicious meal provided by our school food service and donated by Iowa Select Farms.
  • The Scholastic book fair was a huge hit at conferences. The book fair netted over $2,300 and that means that $1,177 goes back to our library in items or things to purchase for our library. Also, many teachers received books for their classrooms!
  • Each student received a board game and a book last Tuesday, provided by our local businesses. Thank you!
  • Virtual Music Concert to come on Decmeber 18th, more information to come!

Holiday Virtual Music Concert

Our music concert this year will look different due to COVID-19. Mrs. Schnuckel will be providing a virtual concert for the public to view online. The students will play instruments, such as bells and will be recorded. We will share these recordings via the classroom Seesaw accounts (K-3) or Google Classroom (4-5). We are unable to share those online to the public or social media due to a copyright violation. This is a great time to become connected to your child's google classroom or Seesaw account. Please contact the classroom teacher if you are not yet connect. This may also be shared on Class Dojo if the teacher uses that form of communication in the classroom.

Food Drive

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE! We just started our school Holiday Food Drive yesterday. The food drive will run through December 15th and we will count items on the 16th and deliver on the 17th. The students are encouraged to bring in canned goods or non-perishable food items to add to their classroom donation box. It is a competition between classrooms! The class with the most food drive items on the 16th of December, will receive a Pizza and Pop party on the 17th! If you can, please help your child achieve this reward and so we can create a large donation to our local food shelters and donations sites. Let the competition and donations begin!

We are hopeful for a Krispy Kreme fundraiser after break in January. It is still in the works with the company and we have to get final approval from the shop in Omaha before we can finish everything else in the works. I will provide more information when it is available. This will be specifically for our Schaller-Crestland Elementary PBIS Program.

Social Media - Facebook

Please ensure that you follow our Schaller-Crestland Elementary on Facebook. I consistently update the page with news, important information, and things that are going on in our school. I will also put important reminders on this page.

There will NOT be 3 year old preschool on Wednesdays. There also will not be 4 year old preschools on the 1st Wednesday of each month.

There will not be 3 or 4 year old preschool on January 6th.

No School

There will not be school on December 21st-January 1st for winter break. School will resume as normal on January 4th.

We celebrated many students who received the Raptor Way Award in November! These students receive this award for working hard on three expectations each day: respectful, responsible, and safe. In addition to, we do a weekly drawing to celebrate and incentive students for their work towards our building wide expectations.

Our all-school incentive for the month of December is a carnival themed event on the last day before break. Students will participate in carnival type activities like a "cake walk" but for prizes, the ring toss, bowling, board games, etc. If you have any materials/games you would let us borrow that would be appreciated as well! We are also looking for more donations of prizes and bottles of pop for this day. Thanks in advance!

Remember that we are always looking for donations for our monthly assembly prizes or our weekly prizes! It all helps! Thank you!
