West Lafayette Choirs Update

Your Voice Matters--January 28, 2016

Solo & Ensemble (Jan. 30)

Solo and Ensemble will be on January 30 at Harrison High School. All performance times have been posted in the music department and on the choir website for the past 10 days, and maps will be coming home next week.

Students should plan to dress semi-formally and should flexible with their schedules for the day.

All group I piano S&E entries that earn gold ratings will be entered in State Solo & Ensemble. Vocal solos and ensembles entered in group I must notify Mr. Waltz by January 29 if they wish to entered in state contest if they qualify.

More information about the site can be found here.

Vwa Bel and Chorale at Westminster January 31

Chorale and Vwa Bel will both be presenting their Solo & Ensemble music on Sunday evening to the residents at Westminster Village. I am asking that students arrive at 6:30 with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Following the program, students will be asked to assist with tear-down. Students will be finished by 8 p.m.

Parents are welcome to stay for the performance; however, space will be limited. Also folks not part of Westminster Village are asked to sit in the back of the performance room to accommodate residents' needs.

Uniforms for both groups this weekend are less formal. Small ensembles are deciding what they are to wear.

Junior High Choir Trip to see Matilda

Junior High Choir members will be traveling to see a professional production of Matilda the Musical in Chicago on April 2. This event coincides with preparations for our JH Choir's production of The Little Mermaid, Jr. Forms, payments, or requests for financial assistance are due January 29.

Click HERE for a link to the form.

Financial Assistance for Matilda

With 45 students in the JH Choir going to see Matilda in April, there are bound to be a few who have never seen a professional production of this scale. There may also be a few who have not had such an opportunity due to financial hardship.

If you would like to help to pay for a JH Choir student to go to see Matilda in Chicago, please contact Mr. Waltz and he will provide more information.

2016-17 Choir Auditions

The first round of choir auditions is completed, and lists will be posted some time next week. Students are able to audition for choirs up to the beginning of next semester; however, anyone that missed this round of auditions may find more difficulty placing choir in their schedule. Auditions after this week will need to be set up with Mr. Waltz by appointment.

Upcoming Contest Dates

This is a friendly reminder to check the choir calendar for your child's contest date in April or May:

Junior High Choir hosts a large event on April 9 that will require volunteers.

Concert Choir and Vwa Bel will perform at Lafayette Jefferson on April 16.

Chorale will perform at Ben Davis High School on April 30 with the potential at performing at State Finals on May 7.

All times are TBD; however if you know of any school related conflicts, sharing those with me helps me to notify ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) about schedule requests. Please note that non-school-related conflicts are unexcused from choir events.
