The Hoot Owl
December 2021
NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Winter holidays will be here before you know which also brings an end to the first semester of school. Please know that your children are working hard every day at school from 8:00 - 3:10 learning and growing. We need your help with this by having them here daily, on time and staying until the end of the day. Students who are checked out early daily miss instruction. If you pick your child up 15 minutes a day, that learning loss equals close to 6 days of instruction they missed. That is a lot for our learners.
COUNTDOWN TO THE HOLIDAYS
December 2 - PK, 1st and 3rd - wear red; K, 2nd and 4th wear green (if you don't have the right color and want to wear the opposite, please feel free to do so)

NURSE'S NOTES
Dear Oak Ridge Families,
I wanted to take the time to let you know that I am retiring at the end of December. My husband received a wonderful opportunity back in July as a Cardiac Clinical Applications Specialist. We are and have been super excited about this opportunity. Our new home will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has been my honor and privilege to serve the students, staff and community of CISD the last 21 service years with 31 years total experience as a pediatric nurse. I will miss you greatly but know that you are in good hands. My replacement has already been hired and I will get to spend a few days training her before I leave.
You are blessed to have such wonderful staff members here at Oak Ridge Elementary, salt of the earth. Please enjoy your families this holiday season and have a blessed New Year. You are forever in my heart.
Warmest regards,
Audra Sims, R.N.

*Lunch
Here's what you need to know:
*Sign up using the reservation link below.
*Parents are restricted to only ONE day per cycle so that we can allow more parents to visit.
*No more than 2 people per child will be allowed based on space.
*Parents will need a valid ID and will enter the front of the building.
*Go straight to the cafeteria to meet your child and bring them to the patio tables.
*Lunch tables are on the patio by the playground. Unfortunately they are not covered so if it is raining, you will want to cancel and reschedule your day.
*When lunch is over, parents must leave. Parents cannot attend recess nor visit the child's classroom per Level 3 restrictions.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES
Tardies - We begin counting tardies at 8:01 a.m. We do, however, monitor the line. We take note of the last car in line at 8:01 and all cars after that, the students are counted tardy. Currently, we have a much shorter line between 7:45 - 7:55. If you consistently arrive about 7:55, try adjusting your morning schedule by about 10 minutes, you will not have to wait in line to drop off your child. Student drop off and pick up is the line closes to the building. Do not drop off or pick up on the other side the covered drive as it is unsafe for everyone involved.
