Decatur High School is a busy place!!!
We are preparing for prom, enjoying spring sports, enjoying drama productions and preparing for final exams, ACT testing and AP testing! The excitement is building as a new senior class of 2015 approaches graduation in May!!!

Thank you to Dr. Nichols and Dr. Evans for visiting Decatur High's Teacher of the Year! The Decatur Daily came by to give us the scoop and take pictures with chocolates and balloons for our city winner! Dr. Schrimsher and the DHS Faculty & Staff are very proud of Mr. Christopher!!!

DHS welcomes our new Colonel!
We welcome Lieutenant Colonel Michael Snyder to the DHS JROTC Program!
Colonel Snyder served in the Army for the past 28 years! He is originally from Augusta, Georgia. Colonel Snyder attended University of North Georgia and later Central Michigan for graduate school. He has travelled to over 30 countries and and even lived in Germany for over six years. The past four years, he served as the Senior Leader and Professor of Military Science at the University of North Alabama's ROTC Program and then retired this past year. Colonel Snyder has been married for 15 years and has four children.
Decatur High School is preparing to lose part of the building and move in 2 1/2 years into a new school building on Somerville Road!

Congratulations to Kate Wenzler!
Congratulations to Decatur High School Senior Kate Wenzler on receiving a $500 Alabama State Council on the Arts Senior Portfolio Scholarship through the State's Visual Arts Achievement Program. If Kate enrolls as a visual arts major at an Alabama university, she may be able to double that scholarship to $1000. Kate is one of only 5 Alabama students to receive this award and scholarship and will be honored April 24th in the VAA ceremony at the State Capitol in Montgomery.

PTA REFLECTIONS WINNER ANNOUNCED:
Congratulations to Morgan Ford and Mary Virginia Holman for bringing in BOTH the 1st and 2nd place awards in visual arts AT THE STATE LEVEL in the PTA Reflections competition. The theme this year was 'The World Would Be A Better Place If..." Morgan Ford earned 1st place for her piece about addictions to technology titled 'Look Up'. Mary Virginia Holman earned 2nd place for her conte' and charcoal drawing about diversity. Morgan's first place win has advanced to the national level. Both ladies will be honored at the PTA convention banquet in Montgomery Sunday April 26th

Youth Art Month Exhibit!
Congratulations to Moses Pressnell and Will Hall for earning awards in the Youth Art Month exhibit in March. During Youth Art Month, the Carnegie Visual Arts Center and Alabama Center for the Arts team up to celebrate student creativity in the visual arts and display works by students in k-12 from all across Morgan County. The works were on display in March at the gallery of the Alabama Center for the Arts. Will Hall earned Honorable Mention for his piece about the dangers of technology addiction titled 'Zero Calories'. Moses Pressnell earned Best of Show for his piece about the relationship between technological advancement and human life titled 'Beauty of Growth.'

Congratulations to DHS Art Students!
Will Hall and Liam McNae were recently honored and displayed at the Huntsville Museum of Art for the March Youth Art Month exhibit. Liam McNae's piece 'Operator' was selected for exhibition in the YAM exhibit. Will Hall's piece 'Connected' was selected for honorable mention in painting in the Congressional Art Competition and will be on display for the 2015-2016 school year in the Huntsville office of Congressman Moe Brooks. Liam's piece of an old fashioned telephone, painted almost entirely with a pencil, also earned him a Gold Key in the Southeast Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Will Hall's piece of a man swallowing a computer mouse, part of thematic series for AP studio art, conveys dangers of technology addiction.
