Week of August 26-30
In reading this week we are reading the story Hot & Cold Summer. Students were expected to read the story at home yesterday. This week we will reread the story, discuss vocabulary, connect to the theme of identity and answer comprehension questions. We have also started guided reading. Students need to be reading an independent book that they can share during their peer conferencing day.
In fifth grade math students are on working place value an decimal fractions. They have been given a blue and green packet. These should remain in their pendafile until the end of the module.
In accelerated math they are working on adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals. If your child is in accelerated math they either have Mr. Hood or Mrs. Good.
In writing, we are working on the skill of annotating. Students will be reading articles, and we will be practicing how to annotate.
Students have also started social studies. We are reading chapter 4 and have begun lesson 1. I am modeling for students how to take "basic" notes. In the next chapter I will model for the students how to take much more detailed notes, and then these notes will continue to be taken through the remainder of the year.
