TTSD Community Newsletter
August 27, 2021
Dear TTSD Families,
It’s been another busy week here at the district as we prepare to welcome students back to school. This week we welcomed 130 educators to TTSD for our annual new teacher training. Next week they will join their new colleagues at their individual school sites as everyone returns to prepare for back to school.
I have spent the last two days walking our schools with our talented and dedicated principals and hearing the excitement from our staff as they prepare their classrooms for our students return. Their compassion and creativity, as well as their commitment to creating an instructional environment that is safe and welcoming, is awe-inspiring.
On Monday, I was joined by Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lisa McCall and Director of Students Services Carol Kinch to give further updates to the School Board on our Return to School plan. Highlights of this report include:
Final enrollment information regarding the new TTSD Virtual Academy
State mandate regarding vaccinations for all school staff, volunteers, and contractors
Details on procedures in school to manage COVID-19 Exposure and quarantining
What the first week of school will look like and current planning for lunch
Also at Monday’s School Board meeting, we were proud to hear a report on the important work being done on behalf of our students and families through our partnerships with Latino Network and Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization (IRCO). We also received an update on our early childhood programs to include Juntos Aprendemos.
You can watch these presentations as well as the full School Board meeting recording on the TTSD YouTube Channel here.
This week, elementary school families received video messages from their principals. These videos provided valuable information and updates for our K-5 families on what to expect for the first of the school year. You can find those messages on your elementary school website. For middle and high school families, please be watching for communications from your principals as well as upcoming events. Be sure to visit your school’s website and watch for newsletters for continuing information. You can find a directory for all schools on the district website here: ttsdschools.org.
Our full focus is on the final details to prepare for returning to a full, in-person school year beginning September 8. With that, we continue to manage and adjust this planning according to the community impact of the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in our community. I share my deep gratitude for our families who have demonstrated their care and concern for their children along with their understanding of the ever-changing environment. I thank the TTSD staff who are continuing to demonstrate their extraordinary commitment to our students and families as they adapt their instructional plans and environment to prioritize safety and whatever it takes to keep our students in school and learning together.
Today’s newsletter will provide updates on new or changing guidance to include:
Indoor and outdoor masking requirements
New guidance from OSAA regarding sports and activities
Vaccination requirements for education staff
Again, my gratitude to everyone for your partnership, your understanding, and your support as we, together, do all we can to kick off our school year successfully. We are so excited to see our students back in our buildings.
I wish you all a peaceful weekend.
Warmly,
Dr. Sue

Effective today, Friday, August 27, 2021 masks will be required in most public outdoor settings. State mask requirements for day-to-day operations at K-12 schools are not governed by this rule, and will instead fall under the school mask rule.
Information here: Outdoor Mask Requirements.
Important note: TTSD is finalizing our district outdoor masking requirements and will be communicating further next week. These plans prioritize providing students with mask-free outdoor exercise and socialization time. Please watch for additional information next week.
Masking on District Buses
Per the order issued by Center for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC), masks are required on all district transportation. You can find additional information here.
Vaccination Updates

Due to the elevated spread of COVID-19 infections in our community and in prioritizing getting our staff and students safely back into the classroom, TTSD schools and activities will not be bringing volunteers back into the buildings until October 2021.
