Welcome to KA!
August 31st 2018
Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to BPCS! We can’t wait to meet you and your children. Your child is in Classroom KA! As the school year begins, we want to inform you about a few key elements and also ask for a couple of things.
Our class will visit Fort Greene Park once a week on Wednesdays from 11:00-12:30pm. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate shoes (close toed and rubber soled).
Please bring in an extra change of clothing in case of spills, accidents or other incidents. This includes a shirt, bottoms, undergarments and socks. All clothing should be labeled and placed in a ziplock bag with your child’s name in front.
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in school this year, please inform your child’s teacher at least one week in advance. If you do choose to celebrate with treats, please make sure that it is bite-sized, nut free, and does not include candy, balloons or goodie-bags.
We need photos of your family! We are beginning the school year with a unit on community by learning about our families. Please email or send a copy of pictures of your family to dteska@brooklynprospect.org
Along with the family photo, please answer these three questions for us so that we get to know your child a bit better:
What does your child love? Please tell us what your child is passionate about or a topic he or she is an expert on.
What are your hopes for your child this year? We would love to hear about both academic and personal growth expectations.
Is there anything else that you would like us to know about your child? (i.e. food allergies, school experiences, learning style, routine, etc.)
As many of you know, Mr. Saunders has expressed that your child may switch to the other Kindergarten grade class. We will forward your response to the new teacher if this does happen.
We are so excited and looking forward to a fantastic year! ☺
With love,
Ms. Perez and Ms. Nasir

First Day of School Poem
The first day of school
Can be hard for everyone.
Part of you feels excited,
The other part feels stunned.
For many years you’ve held their hand.
And have been their loving guide.
Now you know the time has come
To leave them by our side.
But it is only for a little while,
As your child will learn and grow.
And at the end of every day,
They will share with you all they know.
So as you walk away
Don’t worry anymore.
We’ll take care of all those precious gifts
When you leave them at our door!

Ms. Perez
Hello, my name is Deanna Perez; I am a kindergarten teacher this year in KA. I am so excited to meet you and your children!
For my undergraduate degree, I attended Hamilton College. After which I received my M.E.T. from the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education in Boston. I moved to New York and taught Kindergarten in Harlem, before coming here to Brooklyn Prospect. I love teaching math, and reading fantasy books! On the weekends I enjoy going to the movies, playing pick-up soccer, and getting together with friends. I cannot live without a hot cup of coffee and a quick visit to see my family and our two family dogs!
I look forward our journey together this year!
Ms. Nasir
