Message from the Principal

Dear Westridge Community,

I have some bittersweet news to share with you. Starting next school year, I will be serving as the principal of Sunset Primary in the West Linn Wilsonville School District. This is where I began my career in education, and feel compelled to return.

Being a part of the Westridge Community has exceeded my expectations. I was welcomed by amazing families, I learned from brilliant and thoughtful students, and collaborated with an incredible staff. While I am deeply saddened to leave, I am so grateful for the time we have spent together. Your children truly are delightful and wonderful students. I will miss them deeply.

I remain completely committed to Westridge through the school year. I am looking forward to a spring filled with opportunities, events, and, of course, learning.

With gratitude,

Jules Laaperi

5th Grade Household Supply Drive

Hello Wildcats! Our 5th grade service project is helping the Hunger Fighters, a local pantry, collect necessary household items to donate to those in within our LO community. We will be holding a supply drive next week, May 2-5th. You will see collection bins at the entry of Westridge for easy donation. If you can help please donate the following: toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, liquid laundry soap, dishwasher soap, dish soap, 13 gallon trash bags, antibacterial cleaner. Cash and checks are also greatly appreciated.

5th Grade Art Literacy artwork at the LO Public Library

Westridge 5th Graders proudly present their Art Literacy project at the LO Public Library. Our project focused on Albrecht Dürer and his printing technique. Also, as the first artist to start signing his work as an artist, our 5th graders also learned how to write their initials/monogram backwards to appear correctly.

Parent Input Form for next school year:

Parents/guardians are welcome to provide input regarding their child's learning environment (this is optional, not required). Input on this form will be given to a team of teachers and staff who will work collaboratively to place students in well balanced classrooms for 2022-23. Please understand that specific teacher requests will not be a part of this parent input form. If you choose to fill out this form, please complete it by May 13th

2022-2023 Verification

Beginning April 29, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:

• Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.

• Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.

• Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.

Not attending Westridge next year?

If your student will be returning to Westridge next year (or if you have a 5th grader going to Lakeridge Middle School), then there is no action needed on your part.

If your student will be attending a school other than Westridge (or Lakeridge Middle School), please email Andrea Murphy at murphya@loswego.k12.or.us as soon as possible.

May SEL Theme: Cooperation

Dear Westridge Families,

This month through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, we will be introducing cooperation. As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance and support, about collaboration and teamwork, and it is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.

Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.

The definition students will be learning this month for Cooperation is: working together and helping others.

For your reference, here are links for extension activities if you would like to explore Cooperation further as a family:

i-Ready Spring Assessment

Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.

COVID-19 Reported Case Update

The LOSD COVID-19 Dashboard is up to date with the number of staff and students who have reported to LOSD testing positive for COVID-19, regardless of school exposure. At Westridge , we have 1 cases reported in the last week. With any potential exposure, people are advised to watch for illness symptoms and follow Oregon Health Authority COVID-19 exclusion procedures. Please contact Lisa McBee, District Nurse at mcbeel@loswego.k12.or.us if your student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Oregon State Assessments Testing Schedule: Grades 3-5

OSAS Schedule and Reminders

Oregon State Assessment will take place in April and May. Teachers will also be sending out information in their newsletters.

Prepare your student for testing by ensuring:

  • They are well rested
  • Have healthy breakfast, lunch and snack options
  • CHARGED chromebook
  • Encouragement - we believe in them!

If a student has a smartphone or watch, these will need to be kept in backpacks during testing as access to them creates an impropriety, per state assessment regulations.

OSAS Testing dates: Grades 3-5

  • Feb 24-March 10 - English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA)

  • Monday, April 18 - Friday, April 22 - Science (Grade 5 Only)

  • Monday, April 25 - Friday, April 29- English Language Arts Testing

  • Monday, May 2 - Friday, May 6 - Math

Volunteering at Westridge:

In order to volunteer, please make sure you have the following on record with the school:

  • Register with Raptor by bringing your photo ID into the office. (If you've registered in years prior, you do not need to do it again)

Student Attendance:

If your child will be absent, please email your student's teacher and copy the office at murphya@loswego.k12.or.us. Please list the date your child will be absent and any illness symptoms.

If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let the teacher and the office know ahead of time.

Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.

SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.

(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
