Principal Message
Continuous Learning - that's what we are looking at for the remainder of the school year. Below you will find the flyer that Mr. Goodpaster will be sharing with families this week. As a district, we are working hard to ensure that students are learning each day while, at the same time, not overwhelming families. The following is a recommendation on how many minutes your child should be engaged in learning activities per day:
- Kindergarten and 1st graders - 45 minutes per day
- 2nd and 3rd graders - 60 minutes per day
- 4th and 5th graders - 90 minutes per day
This time may consist of zoom meetings, reviewing teaching videos, and independent work assignments.
The district will mail home paper packets to all kindergarten and 1st grade families this coming week. If your child has access to technology and internet to participate in our online learning, that would be our preference to complete school work, but paper packets are being supplied as work if needed.
2nd through 5th grade paper packets will be available for parent pick up beginning this Tuesday, April 21st from 11 to noon at Brookdale. If your child is actively participating with the online schooling and assignments, you do not need to pick up a paper packet. Again, these are in place of online learning if your child is not able to access the online components consistently.
District plans to have another set of paper packets available to families around May 4th.
As always, if you have other questions/concerns, please feel free to email me.

Important Dates to Remember
April 24: Non-work day for staff
Virtual Spirit Week - April 27 - May 1 (see below)
Ways to Stay Healthy at Home
Eating Well - Healthy eating is important not only for our physical health, but also our psychological well-being. Try to avoid processed foods and reduce your sugar intake.
Sleeping Soundly - Sleep is essential for our bodies to repair cells, clear toxins, improve our memories and process information. There's good evidence that not enough sleep can have major impacts on our health. Going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day can help maintain a sense of normalcy and help you follow through with plans.
Exercising Enough - Exercise releases chemicals in the body that make us feel good, and it's also been linked to better sleep, reduced stress and anxiety, and improved memory. Going for a walk, playing outside, riding your bike, or doing an online exercise routine are good ways to stay active.
Social Connection - Not all social interactions have to be face-to-face to be meaningful. Try recreating them through video calls, or just connecting with family and friends through phone calls. Take a friend on a virtual walk or do a housebound activity together, like crafting or drawing.
Where At Brookdale is Brody Bobcat??
Congratulations to Astasia Donnelly from Mrs. Loman's classroom! Her name was drawn from the list of students who guessed that Brody was in the livrary. Astasia and her family will receive a Dominoes gift card!
Responses must include the student's name and teacher and must be received by 4:00 each Friday. Guesses should be sent to: cholman@fpschools.org.
