Perimeter Lockdown
December 13, 2018
Dear BGV Parents,
Bennett Mountain Alternative High School & Hacker Middle School, were closed today due to threats of violence against the school. Other schools in their district remain open but engaged in a lockdown situation.
We have no reason to believe that this threat goes further than the Mountain Home School District, and specifically Bennett Mountain Alternative High School. However, it has been recommended to us that our 3 BGV schools maintain a perimeter lockdown for the remainder of the day (Dec 13, 2018). This is purely precautionary, as we have no threats against our schools nor students.
A perimeter lockdown means:
- School administration lock all perimeter doors and gates - they remain this way throughout the day (in this case)
- Our school day will ‘continue as usual’, with school administration opening perimeter doors to the main school building for students/guests as appropriate.
- Elementary students stay inside for recess and do not go outside. HS students may still attend class in woodshop and Ag, but are let into the buildings by staff.
If the situation changes, we'll exit our perimeter lockdown. Otherwise, we'll maintain a perimeter lockdown through the end of the school day.
Thank you,
Superintendent Cantrell
