Differentiation
Teachers,
Every day we have the opportunity to lead students into deep and rigorous learning. Through our purposeful planning that ensures we meet the students where they are, they can reach where we want them to go. As you plan for your lessons through these next crucial months, how are you differentiating so that you meet students where they are?

> SAS: Student Academic Summary (SAS) should be completed for each Parent Conference. Follow my directions in the email I sent. I also gave you a copy of SAS directions in the Parent Conference folder. If you click on the “Copy Fall Term” button then all AR info and other information you completed in Nov. will automatically cross over. That is, IF you completed a SAS for the Nov. conferences. The student data will also pre-populate.This is a nice snapshot of Unit exams, SBAC, and attendance records. PRINT, SIGN with PARENT, and place them in the folder. Please complete a SAS for all students you meet with this week.
> SBAC: DID YOU CREATE YOUR SBAC LOGIN? Sign me up to train your kiddos on the SBAC tools. So far I met with 4th and 5th grade teachers and gave them the updated SBAC information. Third grade and SpEd meetings TBD. GREAT resource: LROI > CAASPP Resources link provided on left column.
> Middle School: Applications are closed. We had every 5th grader complete an application on time with the exception of two students. Thank you for helping our families complete the application. Middle school assignments will be posted on ParentVue on APRIL 24.
> SST: So far we have had nine SSTs, two upcoming SSTs and three completed 504 meetings. Our school psychologist continues to complete Initial Assessments along with completing a few Re-evaluations. Keep those SST referrals coming so we can create
> ELPAC Testing: Annual ELPAC testing will continue this month. I will be pulling your ELL kiddos throughout the month.
> GATE Screening: GATE identification will not happen until May 2020. The GATE Office will create a rubric with all LBUSD Assessments, the TAB form teachers complete, along with their GATE Post-screen score to assist in identifying who qualifies or not.
> LB BLAST Mentor Program: Nine students have been assigned to a BLAST Mentor already. I will let you know your mentors names and contact information as I receive the schedule from BLAST. They will be assigned to students (you refer) 2x/week for a one hour/session. They will work with their mentee on anything you would like (math facts, writing, reading comp., etc) for eight weeks. I am excited to see how the mentors impact our students at Kettering.
> SBAC Interim Assessments Let's get them started. Schedule me in your class if you would like me to help out. I have given each of you your SBAC Folder with information needed to start an IAB, etc. I just gave you the student log in cards. Please cut them and glue them onto a 3x5 card for easy access. They technically only need to side with the CA ID # (11 digits) not the side with the student ID (nine digits) since they know this # already.
> New FIAB for SBAC practice: Focused Interim Assessment Blocks accesses no more than three assessment targets than traditional IABs do to provide educators with a more detailed understanding of student learning. Traditional IABs could focus on up to eight assessment targets. Go to LROI>CAASPP Resources>More tab>Interim Assessments...peruse around! :-D
> SST information on students live in LROI. LROI>Applications>Student Study Team>search student (you may need to toggle to ‘18-’19 or ‘17-’18 school year to see previous SSTs). Paper directions are in the box with my counselor referral forms. So far we have had SIX SSTs.
> Counselor Referral Forms: teachers, staff, parents, and students may complete a form and place in my box. Once I am back on campus I will attend to the referral forms asap. :-) So far I have two Personal Growth Groups from your referrals.
> SBAC/CAA/CAST test window: April 20 - May 29. A specific schedule will be coming soon to a theater near you. ;-D
> Sanford Harmony: Please let me know if you would like me to do a few SH Lessons in your class. So far I have had SH lessons with Downey’s class, Celestial’s class and Sutton’s class.

> Thought for the week: An escalated adult cannot de-escalate an escalated child. You may need to walk away, take a deep breath,THEN come back and redirect, discipline, etc. If you need a break from a particular student, then call me please. I can pick up the kiddo and take him/her for a walk n talk.
> Staff Support: EASE (Employee Assistance Service for Education) is an amazing resource for family troubles, emotional distress, drug/alcohol problems, and job stress. CONFIDENTIAL # 800-882-1341. Free to all LBUSD employees. :-) We are human too! If we are not doing well, then our kiddos will feed on this. They are very vigilant and aware when adults are bothered by them. They may feel your stress, your sadness, but they also feel your warmth, your smile, and your positivity. <3
