bus evacuation drills
We will be having bus evacuation drills on Monday, April 1st. Evacuations will be done at regular AM drop off times.
Drivers will talk to the students when they arrive to the school for drop off in the morning. They will choose two volunteers as helpers to count the students as they evacuate the bus. Drivers will instruct the students to leave all their belongings on the bus to practice the simulated evacuation. After the speech and instruction of where all emergency exists are, one student stands at the door and the other stands at a safe location for students to group together so they can be counted and be sure all are safe. Once the students are grouped together off the bus, the driver will join them to give them some further instruction and ask them to re-board the bus to wait for the bell.
Buses with doubled up schools will practice the bus evacuation at the school where they drop off first. The students who attend the school where the evacuation is being practiced, will bring their belongings with them and proceed into the school after the group has been released by the driver. Students who attend another school will re-board the bus.
It is usually very helpful to have school staff visible and available to assist the drivers during the simulated evacuation process. All the drivers take this practice very seriously, hoping they never have to utilize this exercise.
In some instances when drivers have had to use this process in a non-emergency event, such as a broken down bus and need to transfer the students to another, it helps maintain control of the situation.

MCAS Updates
Next week we will start the infrastructure trial. PLEASE CHECK ALL CHROMEBOOKS and make sure that they are charged, and set to FPS Student as the network (NOT BYOD). Amy will put the test tickets in teacher mailboxes the day of the trial. Also, remember to work in the BROWN TEST SITE!
MCAS schedule. This schedule indicates all changes in specials etc. We may also need to add a lunch shift to give grade 5 more time on their test days.
Reading Standards Mastery assessments
Reading Standards Mastery assessments will appear on student dashboards in iReady on the dates below.
Grade 3: Standards Mastery iReady Assessment May 28th - May31st, 2019 (focus on 3.2 and 3.9)
Students must complete this assessment prior to continuing any online instruction. Two standards are being assessed in each grade level and iReady expects this should take students approximately 30 minutes.
Here is a resource from iReady that explains standards mastery and provides additional resources for using these results to inform our practice.
CARE & SHARE
Please remind your students to bring in items for Care & Share. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving. As an added incentive, the class that brings in the most each month will earn 15 minutes of extra recess on the new playground!
- April: Pasta
- May: Juice Boxes
- June: Cans of Tuna Fish
