The Latest Coleman Happenings for Families ~January 16, 2023
Congratulations Mrs. Taylor, Coleman's Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Taylor has been teaching in Fauquier County Public Schools since 2007. Her entire educational career has been committed to the students at W. G. Coleman Elementary. Mrs. Taylor is an awesome teacher that leaves a big impression on students that walk through the thresholds of her classroom as well as families which she supports as lovingly as she does her students. There is always excitement in her classroom because she brings so much energy and her love for learning easily transmits to that of her students. She takes great pride in deeply getting to know each of her students.
Mrs. Taylor is a champion for her students and a big proponent of making sure that their social-emotional needs are met first in order to access their full attention for learning academic content. She is an advocate for all students and finds ways to meet the academic needs for all of her students. She is very involved with her parents and makes it a point to connect with them regularly to keep them abreast of daily happenings in her classroom. She collaborates with other teachers almost daily to get feedback on her planning and execution of instruction and activities. She expects all of her students to achieve and understands that there are varying levels of achievement, but that it is possible for all. Her focus has been on supporting students in small group and individual sessions to maximize their full potential.
Mrs. Taylor is such a positive influence on those around her. She strives to support her students and colleagues where needed. She is a good listener and a supportive friend. Her patience and understanding are qualities that draw students and staff closer.
Mrs. Taylor spent her first three years at Coleman as a third-grade teacher and the remaining years teaching first-grade. She has worked with students of varying developmental needs and has lots of experience working with special education students. Her students thrive because of all that she does to support their learning in her classroom.

One School One Book Donation Request
Dear Families,
Last year Coleman students participated in the One School One Book program where all students had the opportunity to read or be read to and participated in daily discussions and activities surrounding the book Stella Diaz Has Something to Say. This year we would like to bring back this opportunity, but need your help.
This year we are asking local businesses and families to help sponsor this program. The cost is approximately $3000.00 to fund and would support the purchase of a book for each student. Students and families have enjoyed the stories and activities associated with the reading in past years and we want to keep this tradition going.
Here is a link to the book that we have chosen for this school year.

If you or a business you know would be able to donate, whole or in part, please contact me at 540-422-7550.
Sincerely,
Shawn Morton
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
In order to do this, one must be focused on fully understanding what information others are sharing. To do this, one must engage by:
- Making the person that is sharing information the focal point
- Looking at the person with their body faced towards them and
- Limiting/eliminating distractions.
By doing this it will help to understand another's feelings or emotions, point of view, as well as develop trust, respect and a deeper understanding of a person's needs.
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Participants and Winners!
We would like to congratulate all of the participants in the Spelling Bee held on December 13, 2022. We look forward to cheering on the following students who will participate in the countywide Spelling Bee on Saturday, January 21 at 9:00 AM:

2nd - Althea Schmitt - 5th Grade

Thank you to Mrs. Sperka, our announcer and Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Bern our judges. None of this would have been possible without the coordination and behind-the-scenes work of Mrs. Harlow, our Spelling Bee Coordinator! Thank you for making this event a success!
