Message from the Principal
Hello Willow Dale Families!
The Last week of school has arrived! Thank you for a wonderful and productive school year! Special thanks to our parents who have contributed in ways small, large, and unimaginable! Thank you for getting your children to school on time each day, helping them in the learning process, and for prioritizing the partnership between home and school.
I would be remiss if I did not extend a big thank you to our Home & School volunteers. I am in awe of your endless energy and commitment to providing experiences for the students and families at Willow Dale. We bid Ms. Van Atta, president of Home & School, a fond farewell. Thank you for your years of service to Willow Dale.
Next, I would like to thank our hardworking and caring teachers and staff members who have made a huge difference for our students. Their commitment is outstanding, and our students are the lucky beneficiaries of their handiwork. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences. Your daily lessons showed that education is about passion, love, fostering curiosity, and developing the social skills needed for students to succeed. For these, and a million other contributions, we are truly grateful. Thank you and well done to an incredible group of professionals!
I also want to recognize and honor several of our retirees this year. Best wishes to Ms. Starr (Special Education), Ms. Dougherty (Reading Specialist), Ms. White (School Nurse), Jeannie Burg, and Marie McConnell (Evening Custodians) as you embark on your retirement journey. Thank you for your many years of hard work and dedication to the Willow Dale students, staff, families, and the entire community. Your everyday interactions and impact will be greatly missed. Enjoy this new adventure and keep in touch.
A final word to the Willow Dale students:
Thank you for all your persistence throughout the school year. Mr. Julius and I are honored to be your principals. We will miss the bustling hallways, energetic cafeteria, active recess yard, daily classroom visits, and all of your hugs. You keep us laughing and young at heart. We are grateful for your kindness, intelligent insights, creativity, and amazing talents you shared throughout the year.
Best wishes to our fifth graders moving on to Log College Middle School-- You are an outstanding group of students whom we will miss much. Follow your dreams, and don’t forget that we are only a few steps away if you need us.
Lastly, I want to remind you to read every day!!! “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
Until next school year, here’s wishing you a summer filled with love, laughter, and learning.
May you have a fun, safe, and relaxing summer break!
All the best,
Mrs. Perkins and Mr. Julius

Summer Reading Challenge!
How does CSD Summer Reading work?
The purpose of the CSD Summer Reading Challenge is to encourage in each student a lifelong love of reading and to create a community of readers by providing students with varied opportunities to engage with texts.
We are asking all Centennial School District students to read for pleasure throughout the summer and to keep a record of their summer reading on the CSD Summer Reading Challenge Form. Students who complete summer reading can submit this form as their entry ticket in a prize drawing given by each building.
We also ask that families support student reading during the summer, and encourage you to read along with your students as well. Your participation in summer reading is important for us to create a true Centennial community of readers.
Students: In order to qualify for a prize drawing upon return to school, you are encouraged to participate in the CSD Summer Reading Challenge through one or more of these opportunities:
- Read self-selected texts independently (Texts are considered to be books, E-books, audiobooks, magazines, electronic periodicals, graphic novels, poetry collections, plays, short fiction, etc.)
- Participate in Reading Olympics
Prior to summer break, students should print a copy of the CSD Summer Reading Challenge Inventory Form (see link below) and complete it as they read during the summer. Upon their return to school in September, students should submit the form to their school librarian. The completed Inventory Form will serve as the student’s ‘raffle ticket’ for the prize drawing. All forms are due no later than September 6, 2019
Fourth-Grade Science Fair- Out of This World!
Thank you to the WTHS Seniors!
This spring, Willow Dale was fortunate to host four William Tennent High School Seniors and alumni who chose to complete their Senior Internship Experience alongside several teachers at Willow Dale. These seniors plan to attend college majoring in Education or a related field. Our teachers and students enjoyed working with them over the last several weeks.
Best Wishes and Good Luck-- Lauren, Keenan, Olivia, and Sandra! We will miss you!

Student Dress Reminders
As the Spring season is upon us, it is important to remember to dress according to the weather.
Hopefully, the days will become and remain warm and dry (at least during the school day), which will lead to more time spent outside on the playground! To that end, it is essential that students are coming to school prepared for the various weather conditions we will experience. As the temperatures do rise, please remember that flip flops, slides, and sandals are not permissible as footwear, as they pose a safety concern throughout the building and outside on the playground.
We don’t want anyone to sustain an injury!
Additionally, please be reminded that the school is air-conditioned and can be cooler inside.
Thank you for your support.
