Rosa Parks Day
"Each person must live their life as a model for others."
"I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear."
"I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free... so other people would be also free."

Days and counting...
For the Love of Rock
Many have seen this rock in the creeks around Granger. The school library sports a couple for student viewing. "This provides further evidence that Austin was once covered by a shallow ocean during Cretaceous time more than 100 million years ago.

What's New in the Library
First and second grade added titles which also hold interest for older students working on improving their skills and fluency. (For those who enjoy a good laugh, Mo Willems and Robert Munsch are a sure bet!)
Third grade has the largest selection of reading materials, as it is where more elementary students can be found in their optimal reading growth levels.
Fourth and fifth grade level readers have additional quick reads, which gives a sense of accomplishment towards their reading goals, as chapter books take longer to read and quiz. After passing a test, they have a visual reward - watching their graphic flower fill with color. Once their goal is met, a beautiful flower is complete.
Pre-K and Kinder were also in need of new titles. Their excitement was over character books they see on TV, such as Doc McStuffins and Paw Patrol. Another hit was animal shaped board books with simple facts.
Not to be left out, a few new titles were added to the secondary library, along with another treat which can be expected soon. The titles will be arranged according to genre, allowing for a quicker choice. If a student loved Orson Scott Card, they know they can go to the Science Fiction section and find another adventure. For student comfort, a new lounging couch, which has board tables to use as a surface for laptops or paperwork, will be added.
A big thank you to the students, families, and community of Granger. The annual November book fair fundraiser allows the library to update and enrich its collection, giving students opportunities to grow personally and academically.

THE FLU & STOMACH VIRUS
Please take precautions to keep yourself, and others, healthy. If your student is sick, please do not send to school until the doctor has cleared return. Student needs to be fever free, without medication, for 24 hours.
"Both flu and allergies can lead to a runny, stuffy nose; congestion; cough; and sore throat. But the flu can also cause fever that lasts for 3-4 days, along with a headache, fatigue, and general aches and pain... “Allergies can also cause itchy, watery eyes, which you don't normally have with a cold or flu."
Something to Ponder: Students and Faculty may have compromised immune systems, or are caregivers for those who do. Let's all walk away from this flu season.
