Everything You Need to Know about FTMS East
A Great First Month!
East Family,
- Be Safe: My actions towards myself and others will be positive.
- Be Responsible: My decisions will positively impact my learning and school environment.
- Be Respectful: My interactions will be kind and courteous.
Our students have worked hard to ensure they are exemplify these expectations daily. As we continue moving forward this school year our staff will place emphasis on recognizing the students efforts with positive recognition. It is our goal to routinely highlight the positive behaviors East students demonstrate instead of spending so much attention on negative behaviors displayed. We will also continue our focus on improving misbehavior. Our staff is dedicated to finding the best resources to help support and rehabilitate inappropriate behaviors.
As we continue our efforts we hope our East parents will support our growth and provide encouragement to the teachers, students, and school. Together we can make amazing things happen at East.
Let's keep being great!
Mr. Vandermark
Parent Teacher Conferences: September 13th
On Thursday, September 13th the staff at Franklin Township Middle School East will hold its annual Parent Teacher Conferences. Over the past several years these conferences have been utilized to share information with parents about the progress of their child.
Soon our faculty will be inviting parents to meet and discuss their child’s school year. While we would like to hold a conference for every student, unfortunately, we do not have the time and resources to complete this monumental task in one night. Therefore, our staff will be prioritizing their conferences based on student data and staff input. This information will be utilized to help determine the teacher’s invitation list.
Conferences will be held from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM on the 13th. In the event that you do not have an opportunity to meet with a teacher, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher(s) and set-up an appointment to discuss any concerns you may have. `
It is our goal to provide more meaningful feedback to help support your student. While we are aware we cannot meet with every parent our faculty is dedicated to being available to discuss any questions regarding your child’s education. Our second conference window will be held on February 21st, 2019 and follow the same format.
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 803-8100.

News from the clinic:
Immunization Requirements:
The State of Indiana has published the new immunization requirements for the 2018-19 school year. Below you will find how the new requirements affect different grade levels.
Hepatitis A will be required for grades K-4, 6, and 12. Requirements have been phased in the last few years, eventually to be required at all levels. Hepatitis A is a series of 2 shots given 6 months apart.
Tdap and MCV4, as well as 2 doses of Hep A, are required for all students in grade 6.
A second dose of MCV4, as well as 2 doses of Hep A, are required for grade 12.
Please contact your student’s doctor now so that appointments are available and may be completed prior to the start of school. The availability of appointments diminishes greatly as summer approaches. The Marion County Health Department’s phone is 317-221-5700, and offers appointments on some days of the week. In addition to private providers and the MCHD, other resources include Walgreen’s clinics or other pharmacies. Please confirm for your particular insurance coverage and for minimum age, if applicable.
Deadline to turn in complete immunization records for 6th graders and students new to Franklin Township schools is September 27, 2018. At that time, if your child is still missing immunizations, he/she will be excluded from school in accordance with Indiana State Law. If you cannot get an appointment before this date, we require a statement (appointment card) from your physician or local health department stating your child will be immunized on a certain date. If your child needs more than one visit to complete the required immunizations, you must also keep your appointments and provide us with this information.

BYOD at HOME!
As many of your students transition from using their devices in the classroom to using their device at home there may be some additional challenges that surface. While at school our internet filters, firewalls, and other technologies make a great effort to ensure your student is safe and secure online. We do our very best to ensure these tools help provide a safe environment for learning with technology.
When students leave our building their devices and actions are no longer filtered through our tools. This means that any web filtering outside of school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. We encourage you to speak to your children regarding internet safety and digital citizenship, and to reinforce positive online interactions. We have some suggestions on how to better monitor the use of devices at home. Below you will find some helpful links that can better support your students and devices to ensure safer more responsible use at home.
SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICIES & FAQ
The following information provides you with district frequently asked questions, BYOD policies, rules, guidelines, and much more. This information will help better understand the technology expectations of FTCSC.

Parent Controls:
Ultimately, you have the control of your student's technology use at home. There are also great tools outside of school that can help support your expectations at home. Aside from third party supports such as personal routers, software, and other devices that help filter internet use, parents can also control their internet through their internet provider.
