Tech Tools
Hyperdocs
Hyperdocs are a tool created by Lisa Highfill, Kelly Hilton, and Sarah Landis. Hyperdocs allow you to create interactive lessons that are personalized and self paced. Students can have access to the lesson and work through the various tasks as they would like, leaving teachers the opportunity to meet individually with students or with small groups.
Hyperdocs are Google Docs that include a table that links to other content. This content can be images, articles, videos, resources, and more. You can even create Hyperslides and Hypersites!
Sample hyperdocs can be found online at Teachers Give Teachers, a FREE site where you can search for and use Hyperdocs that other educators have created!
The image below shows what a Hyperdoc is and isn't. If you are interested in learning more about Hyperdocs, check out the Hyperdoc Handbook.
Seesaw
Seesaw is a student driven digital portfolio site that works on iPads, as well as Chromebooks. Students can record video, take pictures, annotate, and add links to their work. They can view the work of their classmates if teachers choose and parents can use the parent feature to comment on their child's work!
Additionally, Seesaw fosters many 21st century skills, by giving students voice and choice in terms of how they show what they know and an authentic audience, by allowing classmates and/or parents to comment on the work. There is even a built in blog feature that students can use for reflection!
Spotlight on...
Alvarado ASB Technology Committee
Doreen Lucero leads the Alvarado ASB Technology Committee. Students in this committee create weekly video announcements using green screen technology.
It starts with students collaborating in Google Docs to write the script. They also use Google Classroom to comment on ideas needed for the script. When it is time to record, they use a teleprompter to display the Google Doc script for the speakers. Once they are done recording, they work together to edit the video into it's final production which is played for the Alvarado community each Monday!
This process repeats each week, as students share information about clubs, the weather, announcements, AIS expectations, and sports. Teachers have also started requesting announcements to be made and students use a Google Form to take requests and manage the results in Google Sheets!
Check out the pictures of students recording, their lastest video announcement, and subscribe to the Alvarado Matador Network YouTube Channel!
Estela Gonzales
5th grade students in Mrs. Crosniel's class were learning about plant cells and were drawing the different parts of the cell. Then they took an Ozobot robot and wrote lines of code to code the robot around the different parts. The Ozobot would pause at the various parts to allow students to discuss what the role of that part to to the plant cell.
