Threats to School Safety Procedures ~ Keeping our Students and Staff Safe
The Limestone District School Board has a primary responsibility to ensure the safety of students and staff inside Board buildings and on Board property. All schools are required to have a Threats to School Safety Procedure which is initiated when a high risk incident involving weapons, hazardous chemical spill, severe weather warning, student/stranger intrusion, etc., occur in the school or on school property, or there are circumstances in the vicinity of the school that could endanger the lives and/or the safety of students and/or staff.
Students and staff review these procedures annually and are required to practice at least twice a year. During these drills, signs will be posted on the entrance doors indicating that the school is in Shelter in Place, Hold and Secure, or Lockdown. The doors may be locked and no one will be allowed into the school. This is the same procedure that will be followed in a real situation.
We have scheduled a practice for the week of February 12th. As in past years, staff have been educating all students about our Threats to School Safety Procedures and familiarizing students with proper terminology and what to do in each situation. You may wish to talk to your child/children at home about these situations as well.
