Mission(s)
The first standard of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools is: "An excellent Catholic School is guided and driven by a clearly communicated mission that embraces Catholic Identity rooted in Gospel values, centered on the Eucharist, and committed to faith formation, academic excellence and service." Benchmark 1.3 states that members of the school will periodically review and renew the mission. Therefore, we have decided to do just that; the faculty has already reviewed and discussed our current mission statement, and discussed potential changes to it. Below please find our three candidates. At the PTC Meeting on Wednesday, we will discuss these some more.
The mission of St. Mary Magdalen School is to:
1. empower our families to witness the Gospel through excellence in faith, academics and service in support of our Catholic identity.2. empower our Catholic school community for a faith-filled journey of academic excellence and service.
3. empower the St. Mary Magdalen family to witness the Gospel and grow through faith, academics and service.

Some Friendly Reminders
1. Students are not to be dropped off before 7:00 AM.
2. Parents are to park at the church parking lot when dropping students off
between 7:00 and 7:40 AM, as the front door is locked at this time.
3. Please don't enter the school building before 7:45 AM, unless you're
tending to business in the school office.
4. Students arriving between 7:00 and 7:40 AM must report to the cafeteria –
Staff members are present for supervision.
5. Teachers will pick up students as a group from the cafeteria at 7:45 AM, when te very first bell of the day rings.
6. Students (K3 – 2nd grade) that arrive at 7:45 and after will be escorted by a
faculty member to his/her classroom. This will alleviate any congestion in
the hallway, and also enable teachers to start roll call and morning preparations without any distractions.
7. Parents picking up students in K3-K5 are to wait for the 3:00 PM bell.
At that time, please proceed to the room and form a line by the door.
The teacher will then call the student to the door as she makes eye contact
with his/her parent. This process will avoid any confusion with the
parent/student pick-up.
8. Parents, grandparents and/or any family member may have lunch with a
student only on their birthday.
9. Parents, please refrain from bringing lunch, textbooks or athletic equipment
to you child after school has started, as it causes a disruption to the
class.
10. After School Care Pick-up – Please park at the Church parking lot and
proceed to the cafeteria, where the student will be signed out.
11. Breakfast/lunch must be paid in advance (preferably on the 1st of every
month) in the school office. Monthly lunch menus are sent home with the
students.
TARDINESS – Students that are tardy will have to wait in the main hallway until Mr. Daily is done with morning prayer/announcements.
Students are only allowed so many absences for the year as follows:
19 Absences = Summer School
25 Absences = Retention

Building Bridges Through Service
Additionally, we coordinated with Catholic Charities to provide the chance for our students interested in service on Student Council to spend time interacting with refugees from Iraq, Iran, Burma and Thailand.
While these service opportunities were undeniably different, they shared a commonality in that they heed the call of Pope Francis to go to the outskirts and the outcasts, preaching the Good News.
