April Update
Parents,
I cannot believe we are already in April and the dates coming up go through the end of the school year. I hope you were able to have a great Spring Break and that many memories were made with your kids.
I’ve recently had a few phone calls about student safety and I wanted to let you know that we take this extremely seriously. In fact, one of the school districts' pillars is student safety. If you have concerns or just need to be walked through all that we do here for student safety, I invite you to set up a phone call with me or stop in and have a conversation. We are always evolving and adjusting to the most recent information in terms of school safety so we can provide a safe learning environment.
ISAT’s - Starting next Wednesday, April 5th, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students will be taking the ISATs. Through collaboration with our technology department, teachers, and other administrators, we have developed a schedule that we believe will set our students up for success. Students will only be taking the ISATs one day a week (April 5th, April 12th, April 19th, and April 26th. 5th Grade students will take an additional Science ISAT in April as well), which will allow students and teachers the ability to focus on instruction the majority of the week and not be inundated with assessments. Students will also be taking ISATs in the morning, allowing students to have more focus. If a student happens to miss an ISAT, they will need to make it up during the Friday makeup window.
Kindergarten Open House - Open House will be on April 19th and will go from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This will be an event for all of our future Wildcat Kindergartners! If you know anyone who will have a Kindergartner next year, please remind them to register and attend our Open House. There is a flyer below and a link to sign up for a time frame to visit.
Walk to School Fridays will be returning every Friday until the end of the school year! We will meet on Fridays at the corner of deer flat and ten mile at 8:10. The group will begin walking at 8:15, parents, siblings, and even Fido are all welcome to join. What a great time of the year to get out and enjoy each other's company and a nice walk to school weekly!
Teacher Appreciation is the week of May 8-12th. In the past, we have asked for donations and we will still gladly accept and distribute anything you would like passed along to our non-classroom staff. This year, however, I am challenging you to spoil your own classroom teacher. Small things go a long way toward a teacher feeling appreciated! It is a hard time to be a teacher and I know every single one of my staff members deserves some appreciation.
Teacher requests will be available in the office on April 17th and must be turned in by an adult before Apr 28th. This year we are limiting requests to the first five per teacher. Any more than that and it becomes very difficult to balance classrooms.

Student Spotlight - Anders Brewer
Mrs. Burbank has an amazing student who has tested out of some of his math lessons early. As an extension lesson, she had Anders write a story about equivalent fractions. Please enjoy some amazing 4th-grade extension work!
Fraction Hero
Imagine a giant robot attacking a city called Fraction City. Five Tenths, our hero,
sees a problem. He swoops down to the city and lands on top of a building. He
was about to zoom down when he realized he needed a disguise. The evil
Twentieths made this robot so it was programmed not to attack them. So with the
power of his sidekicks, Multiplication and Two Halves, he transformed into Ten
Twentieths. But don't worry he is still equivalent to five-tenths. He slowly crept
down to the ground and stood in front of the giant robot. The robot turned his
head to him. “Yes?” He was amazed the robot would obey his every command.
He said, “Stop destroying the city and go destroy our homebase.” He watched as
the robot stomped on the base. Then the robot came back. Our hero flew over to
the base and pressed the secret shutdown button. The robot slowly turned off.
Then to show everyone he was a hero he flew back to the city and with his friend
division he transformed back into five tenths. Everyone cheered. The mayor of
Fraction City came to him, “How can we ever repay you?”
“You don't have to, just doing my job.”
Activity of the Month - Activities for parents to do at home with thier students!
Creating a scavenger hunt
If you’re looking for a family reading time activity that is both educational and fun, create a scavenger hunt! Start by splitting the family in half with at least one strong reader/writer on each side, then have each side create a series of written clues for the other team. Hide the items referenced around the house, and then hand the opposing team the first clue. Take the time to let each child read the card and consider the answer. Scavenger hunting is a great game for reading comprehension and delivers a good dose of healthy competition for the entire family!
These family reading time activities can help students discover the joys of reading. Through cooking, road trips, games, and more, your family can work together to strengthen your child’s reading skills while having fun at the same time.
