SBAC Testing for Grades 3-8
The SBAC testing window is from May 11 to May 27. Your child will be taking ELA and Math assessments during this window. 5th and 8th graders will also take a Science assessment.
The Smarter Balanced assessment system provides accurate measures of achievement and growth while challenging students to think critically and solve real-world problems. A core principle of the Smarter Balanced system is equity and accessibility for students.
2-Hour Early Dismissal
There will be a 2-hour early dismissal on Monday, May 16, 2022. School will be dismissed at 1:25 pm.

CMS Staff vs. 5th, 6th & 7th Grade Basketball Game Postponed
TIME: 1:00 PM
PLACE: CMS OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURT
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO TOMORROW'S RAINY FORECAST, THE CMS STAFF VS. 5TH, 6TH & 7TH GRADE B-BALL GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2022.
The game will be played on the Basketball Court behind the CMS field. Parents and guests are welcome. Since classes will be sitting on the grass watching the game, It is recommended they bring towels or blankets to sit on.
Braided Bread, Cake Roll and Cookie Dough Fundraiser Pick Up
The Braided Bread, etc. fundraiser orders are being delivered on Saturday, May 7. Order pickup will take place on May 7 from 12:15-1:15 pm in the CMS car pickup line.

Are You Ready For Some Pie-In-The-Face Fun?
To join the fun, simply purchase raffle tickets to win a chance to "PIE" Mr. T, Mr. Smith, Mr. Nunes, Mr. Cingari or Mr. McGee! The cost of one raffle ticket is $1.00 – buy as many as you like. Tickets will be separated by "victim," and there will be separate drawings for each! You designate who you would like to "pie" on the order form. Choose one or choose them all!
The PIE-ING will take place at an All School Meeting on Friday, May 27!
Ticket orders forms were sent home last week.
There's Still Time to Show CMS Some Love!
Board & Brush creative studio is sponsoring a Teacher Appreciation Week promotion on facebook.
Here's how it works: Click on the link below. You will find contest information in the post. You simply vote for your favorite local school by scrolling through the comments until you find your favorite school (CMS is listed as Columbus Magnet School by the way) and hit "like." Encourage friends and family to vote too! The 2 schools receiving the most votes will receive $15 gift certificates for all faculty and staff, as well as gift certificates for two FREE projects to decorate our school! Winners will be selected on Monday, May 9.
CMS Spring Concert
We are excited and proud to announce that we will have a Spring Concert on Thursday May 26 at 1:30 pm and 7:00 pm. We will be featuring the band, chorus, and orchestra in grades 4 through 8. Please stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the date!
SPECIAL NOTES:
- Permission slips to participate in the concert have been sent home and need to be returned by tomorrow. If you need a new one please see Ms Murray.
- The Music Room is in need of tissues, antibacterial wipes and paper towel.

Spring Creating in the Art Room from Ms. Peri
Spring in the Art Room is blooming with art full of colors, animals, insects, ocean life, recycled creations, rainbows and great enthusiasm!
Thank you to all parents, donors, and to Ms. Kahler for donating essentials for the art room such as clean yogurt containers, paints, papers, plates, and paper towels!! It is greatly appreciated!!!!!

The Middle School Art Enrichment students will be having an art reception at The Silvermine Arts Center on Friday, May 13 from 5:00-7:30 pm. Please see the flyer below and visit the website. We are currently working on a fundraiser web link to purchase a TOTE bag with collaged artworks for children impacted in Ukraine. I will share this link when it is completed.

NHS presents Cinderella
All Norwalk Public School staff and students can attend Saturday's performances (2:00 & 7:00 pm)) for a discount price of $10. Tickets must be purchased at the door and NPS ID is required.

Carousel of Reading First Book Event
Norwalk Public Schools in collaboration with NFEP, NFT, NASA and UPSEU are partnering with First Book to work together to bring 40,000 brand new books to families in Norwalk. The Carousel of Reading First Book event will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 11am to 3pm at Norwalk High School, 23 Calvin Murphy Drive.
This fun event will feature free books for children of all ages including new releases and best sellers. There is no cost to attend. For the convenience of our families, a shuttle bus to and from the event will be provided from the South Norwalk area.
Storytellers will be onsite along with authors, a DJ, food trucks, snacks and popcorn, a photo booth, local vendors, partners and more! Representatives from each school across the district will also be there showcasing their school spirit.
“This exciting collaboration between NPS and Norwalk unions will not only allow us to enrich our classroom libraries, but also to support libraries in homes across Norwalk. Teachers and families will have the opportunity to select books from an array of titles and genres, inspiring a love for reading, and the ability to explore new topics, people, cultures and adventure,” said NPS Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella.
