Parcc(s) and Recreation
It's that time of year... Parcc is upon us and the Chromebooks are missing.
Okay, well I guess they're not missing but you know what I mean.
Don't let missing Chromebook carts get you down! Remember, it's all about good instruction...the tech just helps us get there. Read below for tips on how to plan learner centered instruction even without chromebook carts.
Need help planning during Parcc? Challenge accepted! Click here to set up a time to plan together. I'm here to help!
Learner-Centered Strategies
Create a station
Have access to at least one device? As your students work, set up a station for...
Collecting student input with a Google Form (Be sure to add a question for names and allow for more than one response in the settings.)
Offering video resources using a YouTube playlist
Viewing a virtual tour
Recording their thoughts on FlipGrid or Padlet (Instruct students to include their name in the titles)
Create a digital breakout (using Forms and data validation...let me teach you how!)
All you need is one Chromebook!
Promote Student Voice & Choice
Gather formative assessment data using one of the following smartphone friendly tools:
Plickers (no device required for students)
Poll Everywhere (check out their most recent updates!)
Provide student choice (one of many ways to differentiate) by giving students the option to record their response with:
A voice recording or video recorded on Smartphones and submitted through the Google Classroom App.
Flip the Classroom & Take Convos Beyond Classroom Walls
Use Google Classroom to share instructional videos (hello again, YouTube playlists) and resources before the class to save class time for discussion, collaborative brainstorming, problem solving and more.
Then, provide a digital platform (such as Padlet, Flipgrid, or a shared Google Slides deck) for students to showcase their in-class work and spark the next day's learning journey. Just have student snap pictures of their work to share.
You can even use Classroom, Padlet, Flipgrid, or a shared Doc to begin or continue a conversation after class ends.
Thought to Consider...
Use QR codes to engage students and pique their curiosity. A QR code scavenger hunt will do the trick!

Supporting teachers integrating technology into instruction
No matter what we do together, you are always in the driver’s seat. You identify the focus, you make the final decisions, the choices are up to you.
Discuss instructional goals; how can we meet the needs of all students?
Set short or long-term student-focused instructional goals
Develop an implementation plan and try out strategies in your class
Adapt and improve strategies based on needs of students and feedback from your classes
What types of instructional strategies could we discuss? Self-directed learning, student choice, collaboration, differentiation, learner-centered instruction, formative assessment, etc.
