Countdown to Kindergarten
Raleigh Hills K8
June 22, 2020
There is no doubt that we have all been pushed out of our comfort zones on many levels over the last few months. Above and beyond the pandemic we are living through, events transpiring across the county are prompting me to further reflect inwardly and ask what actions I can take as both an individual and a school leader towards demonstrating a commitment to anti-racism and social justice. We must hope and believe that we will come out on the other side stronger and better for it, especially as it relates to efforts made towards anti-racism and social justice.
In light of the protesting over the death of George Floyd and numerous others, many of us find ourselves unsure about what to do. While there is not any one thing that can be done, we are able to start conversations with our kids to help them to understand events and what they mean. Below are a few resources that you may find helpful in this pursuit. We are all learning and growing in our understanding of how best to talk to our children/students about racism and white privilege. If we don't talk about this, learn from this, and grow from this, we cannot change. It is important that we all lean into this discussion and listen carefully to what others have to say.
Again, it is also important that we stay focused on the power of our community and knowing that it is our differences that make us stronger. It is only when we have open minds and are willing to learn and grown that change can occur. I feel honored to work amongst a community which values diversity and inclusivity, although I know we also have work to do. For those of you new to the Raleigh Hills Panther Community, we welcome you on this journey. Below are some resources you might consider to support this delicate and critically important topic at home.

Continue to be on the lookout for important updates for next year in our monthly communication as well as information that comes out directly from Beaverton School District. There is still much unknown about what school will look like in the fall and we aim to keep you abreast of information as it unfolds.
Stay Safe, Stay Well, and Stay Positive.
Sincerely,

2020 Parent Survey - Return to School
As we move into summer, much uncertainty remains. The Oregon Department of Education released its guidance for the next school year “Ready Schools, Safe Learners” last week and BSD is gathering input from parents as a part in preparing for our return to school plans in the fall. Parents may submit their input on the 2020 BSD Parent Survey -- Return to School between now and June 30th.
The Parent Survey is for everyone who will have a child in the Beaverton School District in September. We would like to know your thoughts about school opening in September.
This survey is voluntary. You may opt-out of completing the survey at any time. All survey data will be summarized so that each person who answers will remain anonymous. Nothing in the survey or District software will be used to identify you.
It is OK to go back and change your answer to a previous question, but you must finish the survey in one sitting.
Thanks in advance for participating in the Parent Survey!
