Cedar Grove Friday Flash
May 20, 2022
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
On Tuesday evening, Mrs. Del Balzo (Reading Specialist) along with third grade students Ava Rutz and Pierce Daniels attended the Lion's Club Youth Recognition Night at the Damascus Community Center. During the event, Ava and Pierce presented plans to create our very own Cedar Grove Story Walk to be created next year to promote literacy and wellness for students at CGES. Pierce and Ava have both improved their reading skills this year through hard work and gave a great presentation with their proud parents looking on. The Lion's Club made a generous donation for Cedar Grove to create the Story Walk for all to enjoy next year. Mrs. Del Balzo looks forward to creating the walk over the summer. Way to go Pierce and Ava!
A few years ago, a wonderful idea was formed to compliment our school grounds, and earlier this week, the Bird Station idea became a reality. The project was completed with the help from some of our 5th grade students under the direction and supervision of Mrs. Sonal Purohit. Thank you to everyone who took part in creating this awesome addition to our school grounds!
Bear Day took place today for all students, and the children had a great time visiting the many stations. Students enjoyed the rotation of activities including art, music, PE, learning about the visiting pony and rabbit, participating in nature yoga and an outdoor picnic, and listening to a special music presentation from the Damascus High School Band! Thank you to the many parent volunteers who helped with the stations, to Mr. Jansson, Mrs. Hirschhorn, Mrs. Kim, and Mrs. Arellano for organizing this event and making it happen, and to the many staff members who helped supervise students throughout the day. Also, many thanks to KidsCo for providing the moon bounce. It is because of all of you that Bear Day was a huge success! Enjoy the pictures below!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German
Our students continue to do an excellent job composting, and we are happy to report that the students were able to divert 586 pounds of food from landfills and incinerators in April. Great job!
New - June Celebration!
We are celebrating love, respect and tolerance with a video compilation of our students holding a large poster of the flag in groups and saying the words: "Love, Respect, Freedom, Tolerance, Equality, and Pride." Mrs. Hirschhorn has been recording these video segments during recess at school. We already have 6 videos and they are wonderful. The video compilation will be uploaded to our school Youtube channel; however, no names will be attached to the video. If you give permission for your child to participate in this project, please fill out this form Feel free to email Mrs. Hirschhorn with any questions. We're very excited about this project! Thank you.
