October Greetings!
Kindergarten - 6th Grade Newsletter
It is amazing to have turned the calendar to October already! The first six weeks of the school year have flown by and students are settling into good routines. Our new spaces in Kenyon are nearly complete and we look forward to using the new Middle School restrooms as early as Friday of this week! The main entry is open and we are looking forward to trying out some different seating options to see what students like most.
October brings extreme weather changes and MEA Break. Please help your child know and dress for the weather each day. We prioritize outside time and make every attempt to take students outside for recess. Next week is a short week with MEA Break falling on Thursday and Friday, October 17th-18th.
I look forward to partnering with you to make it a great year of learning for your child!

Reunification Site
As part of our School Safety plan, all classes practiced walking to the designated Reunification Site for their school. The reunification site for Wanamingo is New Life Church on East Beverly Street and the Kenyon site is St. Michael's Catholic Church on Bullis Street.
A reunification site or "Safe Place" is the location where students and families are reunited after an emergency evacuation of the school. The sooner students are reunited with their caregivers, the less likely they are to exhibit traumatic stress from an emergency event. A predetermined and practiced reunification process helps to ensure that all students are accounted for in an organized manner and are only released to legal guardians or authorized caregivers. Practicing the route to the site helps students gain awareness of where to go in case of an evacuation.

Volunteer at School!
The K-W Ed Foundation is also looking for volunteers! The Kenyon-Wanamingo Education Foundation is a private, non-profit organization that was started in 1998 to help fund the educational equipment and projects that are not typically covered in the normal school budget. The Ed Foundation is run by a board of directors consisting of 16 to 24 members and meets quarterly throughout the year to plan future activities and review requests for funds. Please let me know if you would be willing to serve as a volunteer.
