Winter Theme

We will finish up our "Winter/Snow" theme this week! This Thursday we will be making a "Warm Snowflake" cooking project. Thanks to those of you who volunteered to bring ingredients. We will also be making more snow themed art projects this week. Below is a video of "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats which we read last week in class!

Winter Fun

Thanks to those of you who sent in "snow gear" for your child last Tuesday. They had a blast sledding! We will always send a note home before we go outside. Students do not need to bring "snow gear" (snow pants, boots, etc...) everyday unless we send home a note prior to that particular date.

Jolly Phonics

Our Jolly Phonics letter of the week is "G". The action for the letter /G/ sound is to spiral your hand down, as if water is gurgling down a drain, and say /g/ /g/ /g/ /g/. The song that helps students remember the letter /g/ sounds is below:

To the tune of Jimmy Crack Corn:
The water gurgles down the drain.
The water gurgles down the drain.
The water gurgles down the drain.
with a /g/ /g/ /g/ /g/ /g/.

Valentine's Day

A Valentine class list will be sent home this week! The list includes each child's name and a number. This number will be on a special valentine box they will make. This will make our Valentine Exchange into a math number matching game. Please send in one shoe box to school by Monday, February 4th or earlier. We will use the shoe boxes for their special valentine box.

*Scholastic Book Orders are due this Thursday, January 17th. Go to if you would like to place an order.

* If your child received a "Traveling Book Bag" this past week please return it by tomorrow (Monday, January 14th). That way we can check in all the book bag items and send the book bag home with another student on Tuesday. I hope that if you received one you found the books, activities and items worthwhile.
