Hello Stallions!
Last week was a great week at the Ranch! Those of you following us on social media have seen the photos of the awesome things going on each and every day. If you haven't checked us out on Instagram/Twitter, we are @stallion_strong.
Our week started off with the PTSO Cookie Dough Fundraiser Assembly you see in the background. Our students earn little sharks and big prizes for helping to raise funds for our PTSO. All the materials went home last week and we have already given out some cool prizes. We thank you for your support of our amazing PTSO's effort to raise funds for Sonoma Ranch! The fundraiser continues this week.
Congratulations to our Battle of the Books champions Gabriel Cardenez, Andrew Croft, and Adison Norton. They will represent Sonoma Ranch at the GPS Battle later this month. Good luck Stallions!
On Monday, April 10th we begin the yearly state testing period at Sonoma Ranch. Our students in 3rd Grade through 6th Grade will take the AzMERIT writing test, and then the English language arts/math test over two separate days. Our 4th Graders will also take the AIMS science test.
These are statewide tests that are used in all Arizona public schools. The tests provide the school with information that can be used to improve instruction and help teachers make sound educational decisions about each student’s learning.
The testing schedule is as follows:
AzMERIT tests are over three subjects, writing, English language arts, and math. The writing test is taken in one day and requires the students to respond to a prompt. The English language arts and math tests are administered over two separate days. Students take English language arts/math part 1 on the first day, and part 2 on the second day. On their specific testing day, students will begin testing in the morning and continue until they finish that day's test. Students are given breaks throughout testing. In the event that a student has not completed the test by lunch time, they are given a break for lunch and then return to complete the test.
Your assistance and support is necessary for our students to do their very best and accurately show what they have learned. Please:
- Make no plans for days off or appointments during school hours on testing days.
- Make sure that your student is in attendance, on time, and ready to begin promptly at the beginning of each school day.
- Consider keeping your student’s cell phone at home during this time, as phones need to be collected during testing.
- Ensure that your student gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast each day during testing week.
- Encourage your student to do his/her very best on the exams. Student confidence is key in testing!
Your help will go a long way towards a successful testing period for our students. Thank you in advance for assisting our teachers in stressing the importance of the upcoming tests and helping Sonoma Ranch Elementary to provide the best testing conditions possible.
