FAC Weekly Update
August 19, 2022
Good Morning, FAC Family
We hope you had a terrific week! The 2022-23 School Year off to an amazing start. Our students have transitioned smoothly to their FAC schedule and have begun digging into their first assignments. We are excited to offer them a rigorous pre-professional arts education in a warm, caring school climate. This will truly be our best year yet!
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
"You are not a failure until you start blaming someone else for your weaknesses and mistakes. Be a realistic optimist and remind yourself that things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out."
- Coach John Wooden, from "Wooden on Leadership" (p.228)
Amazing Concert Opportunity at the FAC
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music with guitar legend Mike Stern and his band. One of the great jazz guitarists of his generation, Mike Stern has the unique ability to play with the finesse and lyricism of Jim Hall, the driving swing of Wes Montgomery, and the turbulent, overdriven attack of Jimi Hendrix. A player of remarkable facility whose searing lines are informed mainly by bebop and the blues while also carrying a rock-tinged intensity, Stern made his mark with Miles Davis in the early ‘80s before launching his solo career in 1985. Since then he has released 18 recordings as a leader, six of which were nominated for GRAMMY® Awards. Stern was presented with Guitar Player magazine’s Certified Legend Award on January 21, 2012.
Performing with Mike will be an all-star group comprised of his wife, Leni, on guitar; Moto Fukushima (from House Of Waters) on bass; Danny Walsh on Saxophone; and Juan Chiavassa on drums.

Absences from the FAC
Parents and students should be fully informed of the GCS and FAC procedures on attendance through the reading of pages 3, 4, 22, and 23 of the Student/Parent Handbook. Parents should use the following link to report an absence to the Fine Arts Center - https://forms.gle/ZArp88MeToYZzYPG9. The Google Form allows you to upload a documentation such as a medical note or parent note. Please remember that all documentation must be turned in within two (2) days of the student's return to school. Failure to do so will result in the absence categorized as "unexcused."
