HYBRID INSTRUCTION UPDATES

Hybrid instruction is set to begin February 22. The band staff at Cardinal Heights is still developing plans for the hybrid format. We have determined that students who are coming to school for instruction will be able to play their instruments under specific conditions. Students will utilize practice room spaces and zoom into their band classes in order to participate. More information will be sent to families participating in hybrid instruction.

BUTTER BRAID & FRUIT SALE ENDS THIS SATURDAY

Our annual spring Butter Braid Sale and Fruit Sale ends February 13th. Delivery will be before Spring Break and Easter! Order forms and sale details cand be found here: Fruit Sale and Butter Braids


By participating in fundraisers you can earn funds into your CHARMS Ledger Account! Funds can be used for multiple music fees throughout the school year.

SUN PRAIRIE JAZZ FEST

The 28th Annual Sun Prairie Jazz Festival will be held virtually via zoom this year on Saturday, February 20. All C-Heights jazz students are invited to attend free of charge. There will be two sessions:

  • 1:00 Instrumental Masterclasses
  • 2:00 Improvisation Clinics

Interested students need to complete this google form. Once the form is completed, we will send you the zoom links and additional information.

C-HEIGHTS JAZZ UPDATE

Jazz will meet on Monday, Feb 15 (3:10-4:00 PM). Then, we will be taking a break to determine how jazz will fit into the new hybrid schedule. More information to come!

QUARTER 3 LESSON SCHEDULE

(ALL 8th GRADE STUDENTS, PLEASE READ)


  • Students who are in band during quarter 3 will have lessons during band class.
  • 8th grade BRASS and WOODWIND students who are NOT in band during quarter 3 will need to sign up for lessons. Sign up by following this link.
  • Wind Symphony BRASS & WOODWIND students have lessons according to the link below.
  • 8th grade PERCUSSION students who are NOT in band during quarter 3 will need to sign up for lessons with our student teacher, Mr. Williams. Sign up by following this link.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING, FEB 21

All are invited to attend the next and Booster meeting (held via zoom) on Sunday Feb 21 at 5:30 PM. Please consider attending to hear updates, ask questions, and provide input! Interested families can RSVP for this event to receive the zoom link for this meeting. Please click the button below to view the latest booster newsletter and complete the RSVP (embedded within the newsletter).


Tentative agenda items include: hybrid model for band classes, SOSP update, middle school elective changes, fundrasising, fanancials, and scholarship opportunitites.

SOLO & ENSEMBLE (SOLO UNIT)

All Cardinal Heights students will participate in our solo unit. The goal of this unit is to allow each student to receive feedback from another musician besides their band teachers. All students have selected a solo by this point. Students will be required to perform a solo using one of the options below.

Option 1 - Participate in Solo and Ensemble for rating

  • Select a piece from the 2020-2021 Solo and Ensemble list

  • Record your performance and submit to WSMA (your band teacher will help you)

  • Receive feedback from a WSMA adjudicator

  • Cost: $8.45 for classes B and C, $10.45 for class A

Option 2 - Participate in Solo and Ensemble for comments only

  • Select a piece from the 2020-2021 Solo and Ensemble list

    • If doing comments, you may play part of a piece (not the whole thing) as agreed upon by your teacher

  • Record your performance and submit it to WSMA (your band teacher will help you)

  • Receive feedback from a WSMA adjudicator

  • Cost: $8.45 for class B/C, $10.45 for class A

Option 3 - Participate in Cardinal Heights Solo Afternoon/Night (will be the week of March 8, held via zoom, sign up for times and more information coming soon!)

  • Select a piece from:

    • solo and ensemble list (play entire piece or a portion of one)

    • solo you are working on with a private teacher

    • another piece decided on by band teacher and student

  • Record/perform your piece

  • Either play your recorded performance or perform your piece live for another band teacher and receive feedback

  • Cost: $0

Students in band during quarter 3 will submit recordings by Wednesday, March 17*

Students in band during quarter 4 will submit recording by during quarter 4*

BAND LESSON ACADEMY - VIRTUAL BAND LESSONS

Several students have expressed an interest in taking lessons to help in preparing for their solo performances. Please see the Sun Prairie Bands Website for more information.

USED INSTRUMENTS & ORDERING SUPPLIES

NEW! Ward Brodt has a new way for families to view used instruments for sale. All available instruments have been inspected and adjusted by the reapir staff at Ward Brodt and come with a 1-year maintenance agreement. They offering 10% off used instruments until February 22. Visit their Used Instrument Marketplace for information.



Visit Ward Brodt's website to order any band supplies you need. Order what you need and then at check out you can choose home delivery or school delivery under the shipping section. If you choose school delivery, your supplies will be delivered to Cardinal Heights and we will make sure you get them. If you are unsure what kind of reeds/valve oil/slide grease to purchase, we have attached a list of recommended supplies here.
