Academic Teams Going to STATE
Two SHS academic teams will advance to the state finals in fine arts and interdisciplinary subject areas. The state finals will be held on May 5th at Purdue University.
In 2016, the SHS Academic Team won a state title in the interdisciplinary subject area. It marked the fifth consecutive state championship for the high school. Along with the school history-making win at the state finals in 2016, SHS was recognized by the Indiana Association of School Principals as one of the Top 10 teams. The elite distinction was based on the cumulative scores of all six rounds at the Area Competition that year. The scores earned at Area Competition determine what subject areas teams move forward to the state finals.
SHS Choir Takes Gold
After their stage performance they are taken to a sight reading room which is assessed by one judge. SHS Advanced Choir walked out with a gold rating in stage performance and sight reading! This is a feat which has not been accomplished by an SHS choir in several years! The choir has been working for three months to prepare music and have been working all year on sight-reading.
We are VERY happy with our results and we are excited to see what our future as a choir holds!
SHS Sweeps the Pirate Relays
Wednesday night was a night of celebration as both the boys and girls varsity track teams won all three team awards at the Pirate Relays hosted by Charlestown High School. Coming home with three team trophies and ten first place finishes marks a milestone in the rebuilding of the track and field program here at the high school. It is fun to show up to meets and have other coaches shocked that we have a full team, but then also realize we are here to compete.
We are a young team and these athletes have been working hard at practices and are eager to learn the sport. It is always fun to see hard work paying off and have athletes not just become better competitors but also better teammates. We are looking forward to continuing to represent Scottsburg High School the rest of this Track and Field season.

Common Sense Media working with SHS
Scottsburg High School and Scott County School District #2 are on a path to achieve both building and district certification through Common Sense Media. Common Sense Media provides a K-12 curriculum scope and sequence and lesson materials that are being used district wide in our classrooms. Our educators not only use innovative technologies as powerful tools in educating our students, but they also help lead responsible and effective technology use in our school community. In partnership with our families and our administrators, teachers want to help create positive online experiences for our students both in the classroom and elsewhere.
Along with the data study which occurred during the professional development time on April 11th, the SHS faculty completed Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Curriculum training. During the our advisory periods over the next month, teachers will conduct lessons on the following topics:
What’s the Big Deal About Internet Privacy?
Does It Matter Who Has Your Data?
Common Sense Media provides resources for families to discuss the lessons at home:
