7th Graders Attending PHSN Production
On Thursday, November 17, the 7th-grade students will be attending the PHSN production of Cheaper by the Dozen. We have two 7th grade students in the production, so this is a great opportunity for our students to attend a play while at the same time supporting their peers. The cost of the show is $5, and students should bring their money to their first period teacher. All money is due by Friday, November 11. Checks can be made payable to "PHSN Theatre"
Based on a true story, Cheaper by the Dozen tells the story of the Gilbreth family. Their inventor father, who is well-known for bringing better efficiency to factories, keeps his family of twelve children running just as efficiently. This play is told from the point of view of two of his children reflecting on the last few months before his death. He was preparing the family for his imminent departure, but most of his children, like most of the young children in the audience, were unaware of the fact. It is an extremely funny, heart-warming, and family-friendly tale, and the tragic catharsis of the father’s death is beautiful to the adults in the audience, who can understand the euphemisms.
We are super excited that Lakeview 7th graders will have the opportunity to support two of their peers who are in the show! Our 8th grade students will be attending the production in the spring.
If you do not wish for your child to attend the show, please notify the school in writing by either emailing Mrs. Bertke at pamela_bertke@plsd.us or sending in a written note.
Signs of Suicide
The teen years are marked by a roller coaster ride of emotions – difficult for teens, their parents, and educators. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age, and the past decade has seen teen suicide rates increasing.
In order to proactively address this issue, Pickerington School District and New Horizons Mental Health Services will provide a suicide prevention lesson as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention program. This program has been used by thousands of schools over the past nine years. It has proven successful at increasing help-seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend, and is the only school-based suicide prevention program selected by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices that addresses suicide risk and depression, while reducing suicide attempts.
The Signs of Suicide Program will begin with Team Avengers on November 10. Please review the attached letter. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's school counselor; 7th grade - Mrs. Amy Weinrich (amy_weinrich@plsd.us) or 8th grade - Mrs. Sarah Geiger (sarah_geiger@plsd.us).
Therapy dog
We are excited to announce the introduction of our Therapy Dog Program at Lakeview. Leo, a canine good citizen and registered therapy dog, plans to make regular visits to our building. The purpose of his visits are to enhance the educational experiences for our students both academically and emotionally.
Many of our students have had the pleasure of working with therapy dogs at the elementary and middle school levels here in Pickerington. As young adolescents, junior high students rely on the staff here at Lakeview to provide them with the very best education and emotional support we can offer. The addition of Leo to our building will undoubtedly be positive for our students.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the therapy dog or the program, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Broz-England. sheryl_broz-england@plsd.us.
Lost and Found
We will be donating the items after the first trimester to make room for the items that we will accumulate over the winter.

Veteran’s Day is rapidly approaching. Lakeview Junior High would like to take the opportunity to recognize and honor those who have served or are currently serving our country in the armed services. We are asking that you fill out the form below and have your son/daughter return it to school by Monday, October 31th. If you have a friend or a family member who is currently serving or who has served our country, please write his/her name, the war they fought in (if applicable), the military branch served under, and the name of your Lakeview student. A star will then be placed on the wall outside of the main office. You are welcome to stop in and view our display after November 10th. Thanks for your support of this project.
