The Student Support Weekly Update - October 8, 2021
Elementary, NIS & OIS Bowling Challenge Day - Friday, October 15th

NEW! AMENDMENTS TO 19 TAC CHAPTER 89 - SLD & Summer Enrollment
Amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 89 have been filed with the Texas Register for publication on October 1, 2021. The adopted amendments make updates related to eligibility determination for specific learning disabilities and provisions for students eligible for special education and related services who enroll in an LEA during the summer. Edits related to funding and updates to terminology related to Senate Bill 281 are also included. Tomball ISD is in the process of reviewing policies and procedures that may need adjustment. As a reminder, students who are being recommended as Does Not Qualify (DNQ) for Specific Learning Disability (SLD) are mandated for review at a weekly ABC meeting.
New Supplement at Annual ARDs, Effective Immediately
**Effective immediately, ARD committees must complete the ARD supplement for “COVID-19 Compensatory Guidance (SB 89)”. This supplement can be found in Frontline ARD forms, and must be completed by May 1, 2022 for every TISD special education student. Instructions for completing the supplement can be found here. This short supplement consists of 7 “yes/no” questions. Thank you for your immediate attention to this requirement.

New Transition Employment Guide Release
The new Transition Employment Guide is now live with the Spanish version ready to go live soon. Check out the new, updated and awesome Transition and Employment Guide.
Here is the requirement from The Legal Framework:
The LEA must: TEC 29.0112(e)
Post the Texas Transition and Employment Guide on the LEA's website if the LEA maintains a website;
TEC 29.0112(e)(1)
Provide written information and, if necessary, assistance to the child or parent regarding how to access the electronic version of the guide at:
TEC 29.0112(e)(2)
The first meeting of the child's ARD committee at which transition is discussed; and
TEC 29.0112(e)(2)(A)
The first ARD committee meeting at which transition is discussed that occurs after the date on which the guide is updated; and
TEC 29.0112(e)(2)(B)
On request, provide a printed copy of the guide to the child or parent.
Progress Report Reminders
- Data included should be up to October 8, 2021 and they are to be dated October 8, 2021.
- Progress Reports should be distributed to parents through the Document Share application in Frontline. Progress reports should be shared with parents at the same time that report cards are available to parents.

It's FALL PIEMS Staff Data Time!
A report must be submitted that indicates special education staff's duty schedule, student minutes served, and student count for this school year. It must be completed by:
- Student Support Special Education Staff (campus staff will go through their campus)
- Diagnosticians
- LSSP's
- SLP's & SLPA's
- OT's & COTA
- PT
- APE Teachers
- Teachers of the Visually Impaired
***Remember this is only instructional minutes, we do not record testing time or evaluation times.
Notes:
If a student is not seen all 4 weeks in a month then you will need to change the calculation for example:
· 2 weeks ( weekly X 2)
· Once a month then the weekly and monthly will be the same.

The latest SHARS Update
On Friday, October 1, TSBS attended the second of the HHSC webinars targeted to the SHARS Policy Updates surrounding NPI requirements. Although the revised effective date is now November 1, 2021, the NPI requirements along with enrollment into Medicaid have been given a one-year grace period for districts and vendors to implement. The following items offer a brief overview of the significant points of the presentation. The links at bottom bring you the full slideshow and the recorded webinar.
Student Support Shout Outs!
Pooja Kelm- Congratulations on your new baby girl, Chloe Wren! We are all excited for you and your beautiful baby girl!
Olga Champagne - Olga was personable, confident and kept the ARD committee on track in a highly anticipated ARD meeting. Things went well and everyone was in concensus. Great job Olga!
Sharon Meanor- Sharon has a shout out from finance on how smooth the contract process has gone this year. She also is ahead of the game and organized on getting everyone's information for the move to Innovation Center.
Jennifer Mallon - shout out to Mallon, who is a delight! She is very professional, efficient, friendly, and extremely good at her job. She is an asset and I'm so glad I get to work with her!
