Staff Update
April 6, 2018
MAP/Wifi
Our MAP testing window for Hillcrest will be from April 30-May 11. We want to make sure everyone has this on your calendars even if you are not a MAP testing grade.
During the 2 weeks weeks, we will not have PLCs. These have already been taken off of your calendars. You will have a normal 45 minute plan every day during those weeks.
We want everyone to begin planning ahead due to the need for a limited use of technology in the classrooms during that time. During the MAP testing window, there is no video or music streaming as it takes a lot of bandwidth and will kick students off of the assessment. We also ask that student devices are used sparingly during this time unless taken off of the wifi. The use of our 1:1 devices during the testing could once again take students off of testing.
During MAP testing would be a great time to incorporate projects that do not require technology so we can ensure a smooth implementation of the assessment.
MAP Hallway Procedures
We want to ensure that all students throughout the school are prepared for MAP testing expectations for the building.
Do Not Disturb Testing Rooms! There can be no disturbances in testing classrooms when the testing sign is on the door. If there is something urgent, please call the office and TJ, Mallory, or Roxanne will get the information to them.
Silent Hallways will be implemented for the entire school from April 23rd-May11th to accommodate small group and classroom MAP testing. We have placed the silent hallways on the calendar a week before testing begins so we can practice this procedure before testing begins. This will be throughout the entire school day since we will have multiple small group and make up testing occurring throughout the school day.
MAP Testing Tips
Since we are last to start MAP testing, we get to benefit from other schools already figuring out issues and steps to take to correct them.
1) Computer is on the black loading screen with the Apple for more than a minute, get them a different computer-if you have them wait it out, it likely won't come up at all.
TIP: Have extra computers logged in and on the testing icon ready to hand to students who have issues with the computer is really helpful.
2) Some students experience the inability to type in the text boxes on the test (sometimes mid-test). If this happens have student pause test and then hit yes, exit. it. Give them a new computer and have them login with their ticket to resume.
3) If a student is having trouble getting logged in to the test and their password is not working, exit out by hitting back and exit until you see computer home screen. Then, click back into the testing icon and try again doing it for them.
Learning Mentors
Please make sure to update your learning mentor data.
Learning mentors will be here through MAP testing. Their last day for the school year will be May 11th.
Parent Volunteers for Field Trips
If you have an upcoming field trip, please make sure any parent volunteers fill out the background check in order volunteer and go on the field trip. They are good for 3 years!
