The winter months bring with them the possibility of school closures--or delayed openings due to severe weather conditions. Before a decision is made, school and bus company officials monitor weather conditions and personally check roads in higher elevation areas.
If conditions are severe enough to threaten the safety of students traveling to and from school, a decision is made to close or delay school. This decision is made by 6 a.m.

A Letter from Jordan Mills
Dear Bridgeport Families,
Happy new year! I hope you enjoyed a restful winter break and a family-filled holiday season!
As many of you noticed, our Superintendent’s blog earlier this school year referenced the excellent academic growth that our Bridgeport students have been making over the last year. In her October communication, she noted that according to Oregon State School Report Card results, all of our Bridgeport students, regardless of circumstances, made at least one year’s worth of progress according to the measures used. Our students are impressive! But what is even more impressive is the continued growth we have seen into the winter this year. Teacher teams have increased the frequency of their data meetings and are working hard to adjust their instruction to meet student needs. As a result, we are seeing a tremendous number of students growing at very ambitious rates and large groups of students that are on pace to outperform the spring reading benchmarks.
While much of this success can be attributed to the instructional choices of our teachers, none of it would be possible without the strong foundation created by our positive school environment and our family partnerships. These partnerships include the work that all of you do to enrich our environment here at Bridgeport and also the support and encouragement you provide our students at home. Though it seems simple, the importance of consistently having students read for at least twenty minutes per day outside of school hours and also practicing fluency with basic math facts cannot be overstated. The development of these basic academic skills must be supported at home and is critical for long term student success in middle and high school. As a parent, I can appreciate that this is no small ask! Thank you for your continued efforts to consistently support this practice at home.
I am looking forward to all of the incredible growth our students will make in 2020! As always, I welcome your questions and feedback. Please contact me if you would like to talk more.
Sincerely,
Jordan Mills
Principal

School + You = Success
Your child’s regular attendance in school encourages academic and social-emotional success. Families, educators, and community members can support a child’s attendance and help each student stay on the path to success.
It doesn’t matter whether the absences are excused or unexcused -- each missed day represents missed learning time. Missed days add up quickly. When a student misses as few as two days a month, that’s 10% of the school year. This increases the risk of academic and social-emotional struggles.
2 absences a month x 9 months = 18 days = 10% of missed school days in a school year
