I have met with but one or two persons in the course of my life who understood the art of Walking, that is, of taking walks- who had a genius so to speak, for SAUNTERING..." Henry David Thoreau
Stuck on a problem? Go for a walk. We're digging this study that came out of Stanford titled: Give your ideas some legs: The Positive Effect of Walking on Creative Thinking.
From Steve Jobs to Thoreau, Facebook's Mark Zuckerburg and your very own Doctors here at LMS- they all share something in common. Walking. Sometimes we have "walking meetings" and here's some research to back it up. It turns out it's not just good for your body.
"Four studies demonstrate that walking increases creative ideation. The effect is not simply due to the increased perceptual stimulation of moving through an environment, but rather it is due to walking. Whether one is outdoors or on a treadmill, walking improves the generation of novel yet appropriate ideas, and the effect even extends to when people sit down to do their creative work shortly after."
And here again:
Walking substantially enhanced creativity by two different measures. For the three alternate uses studies, 81%, 88%, and 100% of participants were more creative walking than sitting.
So whatever your weekend entails, we hope that you can find some time for a good walk or as Thoreau says some "Sauntering". Grab a pal, make it a lifestyle. You'll want to hold onto it if it's actually fun.
