"The most important day of a person's education is the first day of school, not graduation."--Harry Wong, educator.
Our Path Note Topic
On Tuesday, August 23, WASD had the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Alma's Beneficial House on 324 West Fourth Street here in Waynesboro. It was a hot afternoon, but with a lot of warm receptions and hearts.
Alma's House will be an opportunity for our learners to benefit from real life experiences in a residential setting. We all do things we take for granted, but there may be others with challenges struggling to do those same things.
Dozens of people attended the event. Teachers, board members, donors, administrators, neighbors, community leaders, and business owners. Another wonderful opportunity for WASD children.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Sherri Sullivan. Sherri has worked tirelessly with Dr. Wendy Royer on preparing for the opening of Alma's Beneficial House. She spent hours cleaning, purchasing items and making arrangements for a special opportunity for WASD's very special learners. After almost two years of work, the house opened officially on August 23.
Congratulate Sherri Sullivan for being this week's Piece of the Puzzle!

Challenge Answer
An Act 80 Day is a law that allows school districts opportunities to provide professional learning for teachers. The state tightly monitors the use of the activities to assure professional learning is occurring. The day cannot be used for working in one's room or other activities not considered to be professional learning. These days are counted toward the 180 days required. A school district may have as many Act 80 Days as it wishes, as long as the minimum of 900 hours for elementary and 990 hours of instruction for secondary are met for the entire school year.
