PTO News!
The PTO needs loads of parent involvement to make our events fantastic, and that starts with the planning committees. Please feel free to forward this link to your parents in case they're interested in working on committees to support our school. Here's the link to send them! https://goo.gl/forms/ggJtTi42OBs9js6h2
A Wonderful and Uplifting Letter from a Parent.... :)
The letter below was shared by a parent. Although this letter references one teacher on our staff, I know there are many more of you that make a difference for students and parents every day. Thank you ALL for all you do!
I wanted to share with you a quick note to say what a great teacher Mrs _____has been for my son this year. I've been meaning to email you for a few weeks now. I'm sure you hear plenty of negatives during each day at big hollow, and probably not enough compliments about your amazing staff! In a nutshell, my son Alex is sensitive, shuts down, expects himself to be perfect, and tends to struggle with certain subjects. Homework has always been a battle and has usually taken all night.
Mrs _____ has been just wonderful with Alex, and I believe Mrs _____ works with him too, so a compliment to her too!
This year started like any other year for him, struggles, crying, and oy, the homework....I was getting to the point where I didn't know what else or how else to help him. I thought gosh, he understands nothing and I don't know what to do; I've never seen the wheels turn in his head. I reached out to Mrs ______, and she was happy to stay late to talk to me and show me what he's been doing. He has had a few moments of crying in class, but she showed me how much he really knew and how much he was in fact doing by himself. I was speechless and so proud of him. She did have a couple strategies for herself that she thought might help him and gave me a few suggestions for home. Within just a few days, he almost did a 180! He was saying "I love homework, I don't need your help mom" and showed such confidence; confidence I've never seen in him. The next week his papers came home 100% better. If I had to think of one of the best moments in my life, looking at his growth in 1 week is definitely one of them. He has made such a pivotal turn in his growth as a boy and as a student, and I owe a great deal of that to Mrs _____; without her guidance and caring, I feel he would still be struggling.
I could go on and on, but I wanted to let you know what a wonderful, inspiring teacher she is and what a positive difference she has made in our lives. We are so thankful!

THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING DAY OF CONFERENCES! I know it is time consuming and it's a lot of talking for one day, but it is such a pleasure to see parents walking out of the building after meeting with you, smiling. Enjoy the extra day off tomorrow! You deserve it! -Michelle
Just Some Friendly Reminders....
-- Please help students see the importance of MAP testing and PARCC testing by encouraging them to set goals for themselves. When we test again in January, our goal is for students to be motivated to beat their score from the last Spring.
-- If you are interested in doing student-led conferences for February, but aren't sure where to start, please let me know! I would love to share some ideas and help get you started with this.
