Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
This time of year always brings a lot of excitement for the many things to celebrate. Our distance learning and hybrid classroom communities have reached a level of success that was hard to imagine back in September. Students, families and our staff have been so flexible and resilient for what school has needed to look like during different parts of this year. Parents and staff members have supported learning at home and on campus in partnerships like never before. We have learned a lot from this year’s experiences, and we will have many positive things to help with planning for next year. Please contact me through the school office with any needs during the last couple weeks of school, or if you need anything to help plan for the fall.
Please note that we are planning for a return to full days of school 5 days a week in September. We will continue to follow guidance from the Oregon Department of Education, and we are optimistic for a full return to the classroom for students and staff. This means in-person learning on campus for all subjects with recess, lunch, music and PE.
Reminder: There will be an online school option for families interested in continuing with Comprehensive Distance Learning. TTSD is offering the TTSD Virtual Academy. Open enrollment will be through ParentVUE until June 6th. We will post a link of the recording from the information night when it becomes available.
Enjoy a sunny weekend,
Mr. Kingery
June is STREAM Month at Tualatin Elementary
Monday and Tuesday, June 14-15, our CDL and Hybrid classes will be hosting STREAM projects during their class time. If your CDL student was not able to pick up their items this week, please contact your teacher or the office to arrange pickup.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Thorderson (503-431-4800, athorderson@ttsd.k12.or.us), Kathryn LePore (klepore@ttsd.k12.or.us), Kathleen Cunnington (kcunnington@ttsd.k12.or.us) or your child's classroom teacher.
Covid-friendly Field Day!
Attention Black Bear families: Students will be celebrating a modified COVID-friendly Field Day on Friday, June 11th! It will be 40 minutes long and lots of fun out on the field. *Due to school restrictions this will be a student and faculty only event*
Please have students wear shoes that they can run and be active in. Some other suggestions: a water bottle with name on it and an extra pair of shoes/socks due to the possibility of students getting a bit wet.
For CDL students please look for the Virtual Field Day events to try at home released on the student’s PE Canvas pages!

Tualatin Garden Summer Sign Up 2021
The school garden needs your tender loving care! Please sign up for a week of weeding, watering and harvesting. Portland Nursery donated vegetable starts and our classes have been busy planting with Mr. Taylor. All of the new plants will require consistent watering.
Current produce available: snap peas, snow peas, garlic, chard, strawberries and herbs. Even the blueberries and yellow raspberries are starting to ripen. This summer look for: zucchini, bell peppers, broccoli, lettuce, cut flowers, radishes, blueberries, apples, asian pears, figs and more!
2 families can sign up for the same week, so get your friends to help you share the work and harvest. If you have ANY questions please contact Paul Taylor, our gardener extraordinaire, at paultaylorocnp@aol.com or Pam Soderquist, 1st grade teacher and garden volunteer, at psoderquist@ttsd.k12.or.us.
Help us keep our garden alive and vibrant. Make the garden part of your summer plans.
