GAME DAY Week
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday week with some time off and quality memories made with family and friends! My heart goes out to the members of our basketball family that lost loved ones over the past couple weeks and hopefully you were able to celebrate them during your Thanksgiving gatherings.
Turning our attention to the upcoming week...it is finally GAME DAY week! We have a lot to do in 2 days to prepare for our first game! Remember plays, set up our warm-up routine, keep up with class work, etc.! It is very important from here on out that players DO NOT MISS PRACTICE! We have had players out for various, understandable reasons, but please try to avoid missing practice as much as you can. We cannot go through plays and learn as a team when we do not have a full squad. Varsity/JV will also be needing a couple of our players for the Marquette tourney this week.
Don't forget that fundraising efforts are due on 11/30!
Player Duties of the Week
KEYS & UNLOCK DOORS
This person should get my keys from me in B208 immediately after school. They should change quickly and unlock the doors to get to the balls, clock, and the bathroom near the 94 Gym open. Lastly, they need to store my keys in a safe place.
HOOPS & CURTAIN
This person needs to make sure the hoops and curtain are down. They should also make sure everyone else is doing their job in a timely fashion and help the BALLS person get out both ball carts.
CLOCK
This person needs to plug in the clock and set the timer for whatever remaining time is left until 2:45pm. This player should remind everyone to start with form shooting for at least 3 minutes.
BALLS
This person needs to get the medicine balls and regular balls out and make sure lock is removed.

Interesting Basketball Facts of the Week
- Providence, Rhode Island once had a NBA time. The NBA first came to be as the Basketball Association of America in 1946, and one of the teams was called the Providence Steamrollers. This squad lasted a total of three seasons, putting together a cumulative record of 46-122.
- Kobe Bryant's middle name is Bean. My best guess is that Kobe's middle name comes from his father, Joe "Jelly Bean" Bryant. Either way, it's kind of hilarious having your middle name be the same as a delicious legume.

10 Characteristics of a Good Teammate
Every day we will focus on improving our basketball skills and our 'teammate' skills. We will emphasize the 10 Characteristics of a Good Teammate on the court and in the classroom.
High character players are a must for any team that has championship goals. It takes players that are willing to step up and lead and get everyone moving towards one common purpose. Players like this are invaluable to a team.
Here are the 10 Characteristic:
1. No Plays Off: The temptation for players is to take possessions off when they are tired or mentally fatigued. This usually happens on the defensive end of the court. High character players stay mentally engaged. 2. Maximum Effort: There are always going to be players that are more naturally gifted and faster than others; a high character player recognizes that they are competing against themselves to run as fast as they can. 3. Competes in Every Drill 4. Leads by Example: Anyone can talk about doing the right things, but it takes a special player to stay committed to doing it the right way day in and day out, regardless of how they are feeling on a certain day. 5. Holds Teammates Accountable: Great teams are player led; if a teammate is acting in a way that hinders the team's success, there needs to be leaders on the team to step up and say something. 6. Celebrates Other's Success: Whether your role is leading scorer or 12th man on the team, it is important that high character players celebrate another teammate's success and the success of the team. This doesn't mean that you don't work hard for a bigger role on the team, but there is no place for talking bad about teammates or complaining about minutes. 7. First In and Last Out: This goes back to leading with actions and not just words. Players know who is in the gym working hard, and if you want to challenge your teammates to work harder, you need to be the hardest worker on the team. 8. Does the Right thing when No One is Watching: It is easy to do the right thing when you know a coach is watching, but when character is really revealed is when no one is watching. Do you touch every line even when the coaches aren't watching? Do you complete every rep? 9. Invested in Teammates: Getting in the gym and working on your individual skill development is great. However, the next step and a sign of a high character player is bringing teammates with you when you go to the gym. 10. Communicates at a High Level: Basketball is a game of communication. Whether you are on the defensive end of the court, on the bench, or on offense, you should always be communicating. Communication is contagious, and before you know it the whole team will follow your lead and begin to communicate on a high level.
