OMS Science Grades
About the progress report grades
About the current progress reports....
Good Evening!
I wanted to take a minute and touch base with you about the progress report grades that went home today. I had several kiddos freaking out a bit today because of their current grade in science.
Due to being out for an entire week for snow at the beginning of the semester, we got behind. We only have 2 grades in the grade book, which means if your student scored a 1 or a 2 on one of the two standards their progress report grade wasn't very good.
Please trust me when I say that my goal is NOT for your student to remain where they are.
My goal is for every student to master each standard with an average of 80% or better ( an SBG of 3). This is what I use our remediation time for. I reteach and retest until I am positive they have mastered the standard.
My goal is to create lifetime learners. I am trying to create an atmosphere in my classroom where it is ok to fail. Because, when we fail we learn from our mistakes. I am trying to teach our students to have a growth mindset and instead of saying I don't know how or I can't do that.....they change their language to I don't know how YET....or I can't do that YET.
Please do not be hard on them for the progress report grades. These grades are extremely fluid and will change next week after we re-test and take our benchmark test.
Please email or call with any questions or concerns you might have!!
Thanks
Mrs. Spin
