Beating the Odds

Lakeview Staff Newsletter - April 12

Forward Update

3rd and 4th grade is largely finished with Forward testing at this point. The hope is to have all 3rd and 4th grade make-up tests complete before Spring break. Many thanks to everyone involved in Forward testing - it is truly a group effort. Did you know our 3rd-5th grade students take a total of 1095 tests? And we need to ensure that all 1095 of those are complete by May 3rd.

5th grade scheduled testing - April 15, 17, 18 (Please keep hallway quiet)

Rooms for 2019-2020

When the building usage team met on April 4, we defined the ways our building functions effectively as well as some challenges due to current locations. Using our sections for next year, the team then did some brainstorming, which led to some really great ideas. I have talked to everyone involved in room switching and am ready to publish this map for next year. Clearly, with this much movement, it is going to take some patience. Be very nice to Jeff over the next few weeks! (Well, be nice to Jeff always, but especially the next few weeks.)

Countdowns & videos - Please remember - There should be no visible countdowns to break or end of year for students. (It doesn't mean we don't know that number in our own head or on a little scratch paper on the desk.) Associated with that is my feelings on videos - If we value every day as an important day of learning, we cannot have "movie days". Short videos with direct curricular connections are ok. Please be sure to talk to me about anything over 30 minutes total. My strong suggestion is to do the opposite - schedule tests and quizzes on the day before break. That sends a very clear message to students and families about what we value.

Kohl's Zoo Theater (thank you, Maria!)

Zoo theater

Thank you, PTO!

The weather outside was more "Frosty the Snowman" than "Tiny Bubbles" (look it up if you don't get the reference), but the PTO put on a great Luau dance Thursday night. The cost of the dance was $0, which made it a great community-building event. Thank you!
