Just ONE Scoop!
SCOOP ONE
Last Tuesday evening, the RPS School Board decided on a tentative plan to invite all secondary students back in-person at the start of 4th quarter (April 5.) Distance Learning will continue to be an option, but it will look quite different than what is taking place right now.
Our plans for this model change continue to evolve.
Last Friday, I sent a lengthy email explaining the communication you can expect in the coming weeks. If you missed it, please link here to read a copy.

February is Black History Month
With all the past and present tension, we are given a great opportunity to discuss some important figures who have encouraged unity and contributed greatly to the mosaic of America and it’s multifaceted history. Black History Month is a time to celebrate the endeavors, accomplishments and impact of black people throughout history that continue to impact Americans’ daily living.
Listed below are a few notable individuals often reflected on during this time. Feel free to explore and discuss more with your child and family as you see fit!
- Harriet Tubman: an abolitionist and political activist who helped obtain freedom of those who were brought here against their will.
- Mary McLeod Bethune: an educator, philanthropist, humanitarian, and civil rights activist.
- George Washington Carver: an agricultural scientist who discovered many uses for the peanut and who is considered to be one of the most prominent scientist in the early 20th century.
- Rosa Parks: an activist during the Civil Rights movement, most known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott.
- Jackie Robinson: the first African American to play Major League Baseball during the time when professional sports were segregated.
- Maya Angelou: civil rights activist and celebrated poet and memoirist.
These are a snippet of those who have contributed to the rich history of America. Hopefully you are encouraged to learn more about black history and it’s positive impact on America.
