Castle Rock Communiqué
Distance Learning Phase Two - Week Six
We're almost there!
Can you believe it? It is the eve of the last week of school! This week will see a number of classroom celebrations and awards...congratulations to all of my Knights out there and your efforts to finish strong! We love you and are proud of you! Don't miss our Talent Show...it will be shown via YouTube on Tuesday evening at 6pm. A link will be emailed to you separately. Big thanks go out to Mr. Morrison who has dedicated his time into making sure we could still hold this fun annual event!
Report cards will not be mailed home this year due to COVID-19 concerns. You may access your child's report card on May 28 at 3:00pm by logging into your Parent Portal account. Need help logging in or locating it? Email wvhelp@wvusd.org
What a year this has been. Our grit, resilience, and sense of community have been tested as never before. Despite unexpected school closures, we managed to transform teaching and learning almost overnight, and everyone rose to the occasion. You stayed in contact with us, letting us know what our students have been working on, and for that we thank you. You all deserve a GOLD MEDAL for your Herculean efforts at home. We know it isn't easy!
Please take the time to celebrate and enjoy these next few days. As for me and my family, we will watch our youngest graduate from Diamond Bar High School via Zoom on Thursday, and stage a small lunch for her on Friday. Is it what we planned? No. Is it a little bittersweet? Of course. However, with obstacles come opportunity. We are choosing to be grateful for what we have.
Best wishes to all of you, and we hope and pray for your continued good health. Thank you for your never ending support and encouragement this year. We could not ask for more wonderful families to work with! Fifth graders, enjoy middle school! We will miss you, but know you are going to have a blast!
ps...you've been asking...please don't miss the message below about YEARBOOK PICKUPS! Thanks for making it happen, Community Club!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR COMMUNITY CLUB: FIELD TRIP REFUNDS
Hello Parents,
As you are aware, our Community Club is committed to providing extra support to Castle Rock for the benefit of our kids and staff. This time of school closure has been very challenging for everyone. Though we are learning from home, your Community Club remains dedicated to providing support to our school.
Castle Rock has received multiple requests for the return of donations made to support field trips that were canceled due to concerns about COVID-19. Many of these donations are locked securely away at school and cannot be accessed at this time.
As you know, field trip donations are requested to cover costs to the school but are never required. These donations are collected by the Community Club. A child does not have to supply a donation to attend a field trip. As such, monies submitted for field trips are recorded as donations. While school donations are generally not refundable, we wish to work with you in this matter.
While we do not yet have access to current educational budgets at the state level, it is not difficult to predict that funding next year is likely to be a challenge for all schools. As such, please consider allowing your donation to remain with the school. Rest assured that if you choose to exercise this option, these donations will be used to continue to provide supplemental materials and experiences for our kids that make Walnut Valley and Castle Rock “a cut above” everyone else.
However, we understand that some families may not be able to exercise this option for various reasons. Should you wish to have your donation refunded to you, please email your request to crcctreasurer2975@gmail.com no later than June 10, 2020 so we may close our accounting books in a timely way. We will work to fulfill these requests as quickly as possible but due to limited access to the school site you may experience a significant wait time.
Thank you for your attention and support.
