Curriculum Updates
Language Arts
Last week in language arts, we read the story titled Teacher's Pets. We discussed story structure and consonant blends in words. This week, we are doing some catch-up work as I finish our fall reading assessments. We will also start a fall writing project. Because of this, we will have no spelling this week!
Math
Last week we finished Topic 2 which focused on odd and even numbers and arrays. The workbook pages were sent home and those can stay at home. In Topic 3, we will learn different strategies such as using a hundreds chart or open number line to add numbers up to 100. This week we are learning how to break apart numbers into tens and ones to add and how to use compensation.
Science
In science we are finishing up the second investigation on observing the weather. We discussed what a rain gauge is used for and learned about the water cycle. Our third investigation is on the wind. We will use bubbles to help us see what way the wind is blowing. We will also use an anemometer and make pinwheels to see how fast the wind is blowing. We are taking a little break from social studies to continue with our science unit.
