Mask Usage on Campus
School Counselor's Corner
We are so happy to be seeing the students on campus. It's been fun hearing their voices in the hallways and seeing them connect with each other and the Covington staff. The counselors wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and share a little about how we support our students.
One major goal of the counseling program at Covington Middle School is to make sure that all students know who their grade level counselor is and know ways in which they can get the support they need. We believe that in building and facilitating relationships with all students, we increase their support system, which can reduce high risk behaviors and increase prosocial behaviors.
We will be meeting individually with students, so they can put a name to our faces and reiterate how we can help. We provide short term individual counseling to students and can refer families to private counseling if requested. We also conduct small group sessions. Topics can include anxiety, school stress, friendships, anger management. We will conduct a needs assessment to get ideas straight from the students on their needs. In all that has happened over the past year and a half, we know that students will have varying needs. It's important that we are responsive and supportive.
Please know that we are accessible through email or phone call. Email may be the quickest way to get in touch with us. We also encourage students to self-advocate and email us as well. We will be visiting classrooms soon to introduce ourselves to the students before individual check-ins.
Here is to an amazing year full of growth, resilience, and happiness!
