A Grateful Heart by Jazmine Misola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
What a beautiful night it was to gather and celebrate the unity in our diversity. Many thanks to our organizers, an incredibly dedicated and committed group led by Lina Viera. Lina is the mom to Manny in 5th grade. Her spouse, Manuel, also attended Saint Clare and Manny’s older siblings graduated from Saint Clare. Other members of the committee included Crystal Avila, our DJ, chef extraordinaire Kevin Farmer, Sheinely Maglunog and her Silent Auction Helpers, all our home chefs, servers, volunteers, beverage tenders, and donors, especially Vafa Hornarvar for donating the patio heaters and tower lights. We enjoyed the entertainment from our TK and Kindergarten students, as well as from our very own salsa dancers, led by Mireya Espinosa.
We saw many of our former graduates and families, members of the parish community, and even our Jesuit Volunteers who came to enjoy the food and the camaraderie. Thank you to our families who represented Eritrea, Ethiopia, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, the Philippines, Italy, Mexico, India, Iran, and Ireland (I apologize if I missed a group!)...exceptional food and representation!
Thank you, Saint Clare community!
THE SECOND TRIMESTER BEGINS THIS WEEK
Please expect a post from Mrs. Kogura about details. We congratulate your students and their teachers for a successful first trimester of school. We look forward to more growth in the weeks and months to come. Continue to positively communicate with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) to support their progress. The best way to do this is to provide them with a quiet space to study, give them boundaries (bed time, social media/technology/device/gaming time), and encourage them to keep trying and persevere through challenges by practicing self-reflection and goal-setting.
This past Wednesday, during our Faculty Collaboration, the teachers spent some time engaging in conversations surrounding grading for equity. I am so proud of our teachers for the healthy exchange of ideas, grounded in our belief that all students can learn and thrive. Understanding that grades are the reflection of a student’s mastery of the standards, teachers shared practices that keep each learner’s needs into consideration. I hope that you share my gratitude for teachers who build a safe environment in which to learn, grow, and succeed.
