Pedagogy with Petty
Want to plan more effective lessons? To cut down your prep time with quality, standards based assignments? Actively Learn is a platform for reading and content knowledge in ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Their plans can stand alone, or you can create your own using their platform. A few of the selling points are:
- It’s a digital resource that lets you be interactive -giving students feedback on their work in real time.
- Academic vocabulary is addressed.
- “Texts” are in the form of videos, art, books, novels, article, primary source documents, poetry, short stories, and textbook excerpts.
- Well-formulated questions and scaffolding in the reading are provided throughout.
You can access AL through Clever. If you want a thought partner, shoot me an email with the content you’re teaching next, and I can help you get started. In 30 minutes you can gather enough intel to begin fleshing out your next unit!

What does Communities in Schools do?
Mrs. Jackson connects our families with resources in the community. She can help provide school supplies/food/clothing to our students. She can bring in mentors, volunteers, and tutors.
Mrs. Jackson works all NRHS students. But she works most intensely with students on her case load.
You can help Mrs. Jackson out by recommending students for her caseload - simply shoot her an email letting her know about the student and the need(s) they may have.
You should not send students to her office, but rather she will call for the students when she is available to work with them.
Mrs. Jackson is also managing our food pantry with the help of Mrs. Thompson. The food pantry is open Tues and Thurs morning before school and Wednesdays after school. Students cannot visit the food pantry during the day. If students are in need of food for their families - just send Mrs. Jackson an email to put them on her caseload.
Thanks for your recommendations and help to bring the full impact of CIS to our students!
