HEALTH OFFICE UPDATE
As we enter another week back in person, there are some key topics I would like to discuss with all families! PLEASE stay home if your student is ill. Refer to the MDH Decision Tree and the Home Screening Tool. We have had cases where it was 'just a cold' or 'a runny nose'. I'm not making light of those - I want to bring it to your attention that COVID is out there. In order for us to stay open and remain in school, we all need to do our part. Stay home if ill, wear a mask, wash your hands, and social distance as much as possible. The health office needs to be aware if your student is home ill. Please make sure you connect with one of us and let us know what is going on!
There is new guidance regarding testing, MDH recommends students get tested now. IF students are partaking in this type of testing, they do not have to stay out and wait for results UNLESS they have symptoms.
MDH Updates Testing Recommendations
On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Minnesota Department of Health announced updated COVID-19 testing recommendations. MDH's new guidelines focus primarily on young Minnesotans — especially those ages 12-25. The recommendations expand the category of people who should get tested to include students returning to school, youth sports, or extracurricular activities, among others.
Minnesota has an extensive statewide testing operation. Parents and guardians have several ways in which they can access no-barrier testing for their children outside of school. This includes more than 20 community testing sites, a mail-order at-home test program, and clinics and hospitals across the state. Reminder: tests remain no-cost to the individual but they are asked to provide their insurance information so the state can seek reimbursement from insurance companies.
SPORTS & COVID
Now that sports are back up and running if you have a high school athlete and they end up testing positive for COVID, it is strongly recommended they complete the COVID return to play (RTP) protocol. The form needed is linked below.
MSHSL Student-Athlete Medical Eligibility – Post COVID-19 Return to Sport
This return to play is very similar to our concussion return to play. Once our athletic trainer receives the clearance letter from a medical provider, she can finish the protocol with your athlete. If you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out to me, Anne Grahn (District Nurse) or Kris Osterdyk (Athletic Director).
If you decide not to complete this protocol, we need the MHS COVID RTP Denial form on file (see link below).
RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN 2020/2021
Mora Public Schools' goal is to gradually have all of our students return to in-person learning beginning with our youngest students and moving from distance learning to hybrid to an in-person model throughout our grade levels.
Below are the updated calendars with the in-person/hybrid schedule for MES and MHS. Please look for further communications from your child's specific school and teacher(s).
